Legal stuff
Nov. 5th, 2004 01:10 pmTalked to the lawyer. I'm probably SOL about the student loans but he thinks I still deserve something for my hand. He'll look into the case which is further than I've ever gotten. Mom asked did you tell him you hurt your back too? No, I forgot. I DID hurt my back and was off on workman's comp for a while and it's been hurting me ever since. WHen I get all my paperwork together nad see him again I'll ask about that too. It's probably NOT going to be a lot of money but what it is I'll put towards my new loans. Screw the med. school ones. I'll default and live with the consequences. My grandmother is likely to sell me her house anyhow since I might need it.
UPS got the boxes here already. They CRUSHED half of them. Bush Beans sent me something for nearly poisoning me with a stone/bone. Not sure what. I haven't opened it yet.
My fish in the swimming pool were under ice this morning. Poor fishes.
Oh and apropos of nothing, I'm looking for what in the heck do Angel/Buffy have in common interest wise (besides each other). It occurs to me that Buffy has shared no interests with any of her boyfriends that I'm aware of beyond the physical. I need this for my IWRY story. I know the two diasterous dates. The only one I know is ice skating but that wasn't really what I was looking for...or is it. Hmmmm.

Date: 2004-11-05 11:33 am (UTC)I'm sure movies could work. Angel, I'm sure, probably saw everything that came out between 1930 and 1970. Theatres are dark and he had lots of time to kill.... Buffy, we know, likes cheesy ice-skating movies but critiques action flicks. Angel is into the wine & cheese films, but is also secretly kind of a dork too. There may be some other option. You can try to do something wacky with that.
Otherwise, I'd think about carnivals or amusement parks. I can certainly see both having fun there. Or Buffy laughing at Angel when he freaks out on a rollercoaster or something.
To be honest, I'm not entirely certain what Buffy is into, but you could work with it. Depending upon time frame, maybe she develop some residual art/cultural appreciation as legacy of being Joyce's daughter. Also - BtVS-5 seemed to indicate a Buffy that had a growing interest in History/Academics that she could perhaps want to share with Angel...

Date: 2004-11-05 11:56 am (UTC)I think movies are your best bet, even though they had that disaster with "Banquet de Amelie" or whatever. And I think Angel would probably critique action flicks just as much as Buffy would, so I could see them bonding over that.
And you could always wank it a bit, since we don't really know for sure what they do and don't like. For all we know, Buffy developed a taste for art while living in Rome, so they could go to a museum together. I also like Dave's idea of a carnival; you could have Angel win Buffy all kinds of prizes, even though it's kinda cheating. ;-)
Things Buffy and Angel have in common.. or at least I think..
Date: 2004-11-05 12:00 pm (UTC)-Tai Chi
-admires different kinds of weapons
-mint fudge cookie dough ice cream
-each spent a lot of time hanging out with Cordelia (and I guess the other scoobies.. though probably more time with Cordy)
-both of them probably have memories of Dawn that never really happened
-had sex with Spike (heh.. okay, probably not.. but maybe.. at least in my head they did)

Date: 2004-11-05 12:32 pm (UTC)Movies are good...safe. You know the problem is Buffy HAS no darn interests other than ice skating. The art thing could work and would tie into what I've already started.
Just googled romantic things to do in Cleveland...and they're all outside of the city. Well I lived there for 4 years so that doesn't surprise me.

Date: 2004-11-05 12:59 pm (UTC)Perhaps there's some overlap -- Buffy likes the figure skating, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that she might be somewhat interested in something like ballet or opera. If nothing else, you can get mileage out of the differing reactions. Or send them to a sporting event -- like minor league hockey. It's kind of like figure skating, with weapons.

Date: 2004-11-05 01:32 pm (UTC)I think that's about it, no? Buffy's not too sharp about the boy-friend and common interests thing, I think. I suspect you're correct the physical thing is, for her, paramount. Also that her boyfriends be very good looking. (Although I dearly love Spike, I must share that sometimes he looks NOT attractive at all.....and I think that his attractiveness comes from the fact that when he loves, he loves so intensely.)

Date: 2004-11-05 02:43 pm (UTC)Seriously, they didn't give Buffy much dimension in the outside interest realm. Me, I thought Spike was attractive looking however James started really showing his age in S7 of Buffy. Then again I seem to find short slender men attractive. (Spike, Connor, Goth God on Joan of Arcadia)
It's looking like art is the way to go.

Date: 2004-11-05 03:19 pm (UTC)I think the argument that Buffy and Angel wouldn't work because they have nothing in common is ludicrous (not that you're saying that-- I'm just taking it there). They actually share the most significant part of their lives-- their world view and life mission-- in common and they complement one another in personality areas. Both are independent, dominant people and would probably need some personal space so being in a relationship with someone who wanted to do *everything* with them would be stifling. In addition, other than pre-college Buffy making fun of Angel for his reading materials, there really isn't any evidence that they don't like the things the other does or that they couldn't grow to share common interests if they actually had any time to devote to hobbies rather than keeping the world safe.
The biggest predictors of failed relationships are differences in opinion on major worldviews and fights about finances-- not how many extracurricular interests the couple holds in common. I don't read sports books or watch hockey on television, and my husband doesn't read/write fanfic or shop crazily for shoes and handbags. But we hold common values and beliefs and are compatible on the "big stuff". That's what's important and those things are true of B/A IMO.

Date: 2004-11-05 03:34 pm (UTC)Though I think Liam did read something. He made a comment once to Connor when he gave him 'books he liked at Connor's age.' and I'm thinking WTF? Is he giving the kid Swift? Henry Fielding? Shakespeare? Liam could read?
I'm pretty sure I know where the story is going to go now. IT was tough finding something romantic to do in Cleveland (which having lived there I should have rememebered that) but I did find something.
Now back to nanomo and pray I have TIME for this story or Leni will kill me.
