Gardening and TV
Jul. 24th, 2010 09:31 pmIt finally cooled enough that I could bear being outside. My garden is the pits. Still too hot to weed. I just watered the suffering plants then turned my attention to the container garden. I could have put on the gloves to repot the things that needed it but didn't. I love scrabbling in the dirt with my fingers, always have. The bag of dirt had been sitting in the sun and the soil was warm, like something alive.
I, did however, underestimate how much dirt needed and can't find the bungee cords I need to hang the knock off hanging tomato holders but I'll get that soon enough. Went through all the dirt, half of it up under my nails. When I was a surgeon I used to swipe orange sticks so I could keep them cleaner. Hell i NEEDED those 8 minute first scrubs some days. I'm a filthy girl and I like it. I have no idea how city folk survive without gardens. I even had container tomatos on my balcony 11 floors up in Cleveland.
I got 3 more tomatos out of the garden but fear that might be all i get after the last few ripen up. It's just so hot. I do have some peppers and watermelons coming in. The zucchini died. It's that ugly out here. ZUcchini croked.
TV babble - I know that I watch too many shows as is but I try to squeeze in more. You know me and cops shows. I was excited to see The Glades and Rizzoli and Isles, especially the latter since i like Gerritsen's books.
Two weeks ago I watched them both and they both utterly sucked.
So I thought hmmm okay sometimes the pilot is just bad. Always see a second one before making a decision so I did that and just finally had a chance to watch tonight.
Yeah I need not bother with this. WHAT were the critics watching that it's so highly praised? You know what this MIGHT have flown back in the 80's early 90's before true crime shows were everywhere and the audience became more sophisticated. I catch whiffs of Miami Vice and Magnum PI in this but the main character isn't funny (though I suppose he's meant to be) He's just an asshole that no police force would employ.
I've already lambasted the first eppy last week so let's look at this one.
A) his badge would not get him onto state game land where it's a federal offense to do what they were doing
B) The boy's mom? Exactly why is she screaming like he purposely took her son to a crime scene
C) the new boss let's not even go here
D) either the hispanic guy is CSI or he's a detective or the medical examiner make up your mind. He can not do the job of all three
and then it just got worse. P.U.
I had high hopes for this. Two weeks in a row they were dashed. I sort of forgave the first week. IT was like they were trying to do too much at once, especially in trying to set Jane up as a tough chick. However, acting like you need no help while a serial killer is after you doesn't make you look tough, it makes you look like a moron. All they did was turn Jane into a cardboard cutout bitch. Which was my fear even before I watched this.
The Boston Strangler episode, okay for one Sasha Alexander CAN act so why does it look like she can't? Secondly did the director sit her down with the first two seasons of Bones and say 'see this woman scientist? This is how they all act. ACT JUST LIKE HER'
I'm deeply offended as female doctor. Bones was bad enough. To turn Maura into a copycat is highly offensive. Not all women scientists technobabble on every subject while having NO FUCKING CLUE how to act on a date or in public. I'm pretty sure that I'm afraid of/don't like living people so i'm a medical examiner speech came right from Bones. This whole babbling social misfit shit was why I didn't like Fred on Angel either. A woman can't be intelligent AND socially aware? Apparently not in the last decade. I'm hoping this was all a set up to allow Maura to 'diagnosis' that detective in the end.
Rizzoli at least calmed down somewhat but seriously? To act that way with her new boss? There went all respect I might have had for her. He wasn't acting like that big of a dick, not for her reaction. And her family? I would kill her mother. Seriously. If that woman is on, I'm going to have to hit fast forward (provide I even give it another try). To ignore her brother's evidence because it was her brothers? That's smart. At least she finally looked at it.
Sasha and Angie are better actresses than this mess is allowing them to be. I still have hopes for this. I'll give it another few tries but really, it has to do way way better.
these two are like an example of how to lose an audience in 2 hours
