just picked up a very nasty virus from facebook (since well the only things open are facebook,lj and yahoo)

It won't let me open ad aware or malware bytes. Am running my antivirus now and writing down the a) files it says is infected and b) the threats (win32/nuqel.e and bankerfox.A)

Symantec is being unhelpful in finding a cure. anyone have any suggestions? if you don't hear from me you know why.


ETA - i did find how to get bankerfox.A off but it requires shutting off system restore which the computer won't let me do. people who make these viruses should be locked in a room with the people whose computers they infected

I don't know anything about removing viruses (I leave that to my dad, the IT tech), but I hope you remove it quickly. T_T Back up all your files first, if you can!

If you google bankerfox, you'll find all kinds of instructions on how to remove it, including how to remove it manually (looks complicated, but it might work if other fixes don't). The manual fix is on spywarevoid.com. Good luck.

isn't that interesting. spywarevoid.com triggered the warning system on my work computer saying it had a poor reputation and go at your own risk.

Might be a scareware site, then. It doesn't seem to be malicious (it didn't trigger Blue Barry's several layers of defense), but it doesn't seem to do anything genuinely helpful, either. If so, it's one of thousands. Scareware seems to be big business. Bigger even than fake Viagra, and that's saying something.
