This is sort of good news I guess. It does sound like she needs to be placed somewhere with more help around, but it sounds like she won't go there unless it's in a body bag. :|

pretty much. The problem is a) she's in good mental shape but bad physical shape and b) has always been of the opinion that her kids and grandkids exist merely to be her servants.

no one does t o u g h like those old italian ladies. no track pants or golfing there. there's woman (must be late 80's) in my building (i live in rome) who is so bent over she's mostly looking at the floor and here ankles are so swollen they are probably the heaviest part of her body. every day goes and does her shopping and won't let me ever help her with her bags or anything. i'm sure she thinks i'm giong to try to steal them, as i am after all, a foreigner (i've lived in that buidling 7 years) the most is she will let me hold the door to the building open as it weighs several tons.

and yet we cannot get my 72 year old overweight father to get his butt out of the lounge chair to walk a couple of minutes to get some excersie since he says he his knee hurt. am tempted to send him a picture of her..

this does not surprise me at all, growing up in an almost Italian village in the middle of pennsylvania. Seriously there was like one person not of Italian extract for a few miles and that was the Irish Catholic priest
