my 12 hour day was probably even longer than that

It started last night when my sugar soared to 350 and caused damage to my foot (I know this because I can still feel the parathesias) then I went to bed early because I had to be at the big faculty meeting before 8 AM and my sugar crashed to 70. So I had to sit up half the night trying to balance it out. Finally fell asleep after 2, had to get up every half hour to pee (thank you diabetes) then finally got up at 6.

The faculty meeting was from 8-5 then came the after work picnic smooze the higher ups, dance you non-tenured fools, dance. I got hit by a water balloon... And i never got my contract until today because they mailed it to the wrong address. I've never moved. HR is...insert explicative of choice. If nothing else I got to meet the new provost and I rather liked him. I also like that we're overhauling our curriculum and it was nice seeing coworkers i've not seen all summer.

Was less nice to find out my class of 24 students (that's the cap) is now at 50....thank you.

I'm having dark&dry woodchuck hard cider. this is almost better than beer. I remember the very first time i had this in Cleveland at the Barking Spider

ETA - quarter to 10 at night and the secretary is pinging me on FB about all the prereqs my students are missing and shall we boot them

I hardly ever drink, but when I do, Woodchuck's hard cider is my tipple of choice. I still have the bottle that I drained after finishing my thesis (drained slowly, with plenty of food and water in between, because I have no tolerance for alcohol whatsoever. Half a bottle and my eyeballs felt like they were sloshing in their sockets, I swear ...)

That's one hell of a night. I think knowing faculty meetings (all day!!!) are coming is enough to cause anyone's health to flip out.

We have a morning one for the whole university (which I ditch and am not missed) and then afternoon for our department. My department itself has 70+ faculty. Eeep.

I don't like how terribly they overload your classes. I don't like that your chair/provost allow it.

Allow it? They're the ones who did it. In spite of the fact we have only a half dozen rooms in the entire uni that can hold them. No one likes it b ut we have the dual whines of a) I'm a senior and I need this to graduate what do you mean the class is full (hello, it's a freshman class) and b) we have no money, pack those kids in

We get whines and demanding from the administration too. But that's usually adding 2-5 students, not doubling the size!

this doubling the size shit started last year and it needs to stop. Part of it is Ohio board of regents says no more overtime which means we had to cut classes thne there isn't enough classes to serve our needs so they doubled the size of the class to counteract this since they say we can't afford to hire anyone
