“Just one more box,” Buffy said, setting hers down on the living room coffee table.
Angel carried in two more. He shot her an incredulous look. “How much Christmas stuff can one woman have?”
“Mom loves the holiday.” Buffy shrugged. “Thanks for helping me, Angel. Mom's been so busy with the holiday gallery shows that she hasn't had time to decorate. I thought this would be a nice thing to do, especially since she was pretty angry with me after Snyder called her down to the office again.” Her nose wrinkled. “I have no idea why he doesn't like me.”
“No clue.” He smirked.
She huffed at him, taking one of the boxes. Opening it, she found several strands of Christmas lights. “These go on the tree. I'm not that good at getting them to hang nice but it's the thought that counts, right?”
“I can help you with that,” Angel replied. “Or do you want to wait until your mom comes home for that?”
“We'll leave the tree for last.” Buffy surveyed the mess of boxes. “Wow, this really will be a job of work. I'll put on some holiday music. That'll help.” She set the lights in his hand.
Angel looped the strand around her shoulder, pulling her close. He kissed her hungrily. “Might not help us get done but it felt like the right thing to do.”
Buffy put her arms around him. “We might have to put that theory to the test,” she said, kissing him back. Decorating could wait.

“What are you doing, Alexis, darling?” Martha peered into the family room.
“Making a tree out of Dad's books,” the redhead replied, slowly stacking the hard covers in such a way to make the book edges look like the stylized branches of a ceramic tree. A stack of soft covers rested on the table, presumably to be the upper 'branches.'
“Richard, have you seen what your daughter is doing?" Martha stepped aside so her son could carry in a tray of cookies.
“Yes it's a cute idea. We're going to take a picture and put it on my website,” he replied, setting the tray next to the soft covers.
“We're so creative.” Martha sat on the couch. “We're lucky that way.” A wide smile cut across her face. “You get it all from me.”
“Right along with our sense of melodrama,” Richard replied, leaning over to pat his daughter's shoulder.
Alexis rolled her eyes then replied loftily, “I am not melodramatic.”
“Of course not,” her father smirked. “Though you are admittedly the most level headed person in this family.”
Alexis slapped her palms against her thighs, beaming, “Thanks for noticing.”
Richard waggled a finger at her. “Take a break. Have a cookie. Mother, you, too.”
“I love this time of year.” Martha took a sugar cookie. “All the decorating, the caroling, the food.”
“The shopping,” Richard said.
“Goes without saying, darling.”
He went over and got out a bag from the corner. Inside were reindeer antler headdresses. Silver bells dangled off the antler prongs. “For the family picture.”
“A little over the top, Dad.”
“That's the point.”
Alexis shook her head. “This family, we are different.”
“Wouldn't have it any other way.” Her dad grinned.

“This snow is never going to stop,” Riza said, peering out the window of Roy's off base cottage. “I didn't think I'd end up trapped here. It's not supposed to snow this much in the east.”
“Could you put that another way?” Roy pouted, carrying in a bottle of wine and two glasses.
She looked at him sourly. “You know what I mean. I don't like risking getting caught.”
“Don't worry about it.” He lit a match and flicked his finger, starting a roaring fire in the fireplace. Afterwards, he poured the wine. He took it over to her at the window. “Good wine, a nice fire, you.” He kissed her neck.
Riza smiled, taking the wine. “If we were back at my father's, we'd go for a long walk in the snowy woods. I used to love that so much.”
“Mmm, we should have the Madam find us a cottage in the woods and we can work out some leave together,” he replied. “I used to love the snow by moonlight, too.”
“The way you carried on in Briggs, I thought snow might kill you.” She grinned.
“I was stuck with Olivia and she can't keep me warm like you do.” Roy pulled her against him.
“I do know what you like,” Riza stroked his errant bangs back off his face. “My handsome little apprentice.”
“As I recall, you didn't think I was such a handsome little apprentice. You cried for weeks because your dad brought an icky boy into his house.”
She laughed, putting one arm around his neck. “Guess you'll have to prove that you're not icky.”
“I can do that,” Roy assured her, his mouth descending on hers.
I still have a bunch of stocking gifts to deliver, twofmagiftexchange things to edit and I'll post these to the bake off sometime in the middle of the night probably.
