how not to start the new year

cornerofmadnessMy cousin was sure sorry she chose NOT to go to grandma's last night. ANOTHER power surge hit my hometown at 3AM. Luckily nothing in my parents' house was damaged (dad was an electrical engineer and has all kinds of protective gadgets in the house). it DID scramble the brains of her CPac machine (it's okay but it didn't want to reboot for hours). My uncle lost a few small electronics. the neighbor lost her THIRD fridge in 5 years (Allegheny power keeps saying it doesn't know what's causing these surges) so the parents had no power for hours and it kept going off and on all day.
my cousin wanted to go see grandma. i didn't really but okay whatever. I drove her. Usually Grandma likes this cousin and her sister who was coming from her house. V, grandma doesn't like me - COM
She'll be okay. S and I are here - V
She'll bitch. She'll ignore me and only talk to you and S while ordering me around like a servant then she'll call us all drunks and only talk about your brother (who's estranged from the family) -me

We get there. She says hi to V, not to me. Me she tells to get the chocolates out of her kitchenette. she doesn't want anything to do with them. I say 'when we leave'. She went back and forth telling me to get those damn chocolates out, asking V about why hasnt' she visited her brother, told us to go to hell for giving out her phone number to people then called V and all her kids drunks.
we're walking down the hall to leave and V says to me 'I cant' believe she did that.' Me - this has been my entire life with grandma. you and your siblings only visit on holidays. Welcome to my life. V's husband said he had no idea how my mother survives granny.
Not an auspicious start to the new year. All I wanted to do was sit around watch NCIS and/or dr.Who marathons and write. Haven't done any of that yet
My year in writing meme will be a tad late. I need to get a few more things written for my holidays committments yet.
