So, how are we doing? Honestly, I'm still getting rid of all the leftover crap from the holidays that I'm too cheap too just toss. Also I need to see if the school's nursing dept has a good spring scale like in a doctor's office since mine is rather cracktastic.

Anyhow, 2 lbs off if it's to be believed (and I'm not sure it is)

So anyone else have any recipes/tips/exercises they care to share. Let's see them. this is the time and place to help your friends out.

From me another recipe. We all know cauliflower is good for us, full of folate and lutein. Most of us don't want to eat it or will only touch it fried or in a heavy cream sauce (already done for us in the frozen food section) so here is a healthier version that's supposed to be under 100 calories per serving (which I note in the original recipe isn't put into clear amounts)

ROASTED CAULIFLOWER *

1 cauliflower cut apart
Kosher salt & pepper to taste
Spices (see suggestions below)

Preheat oven to 450.
Cut apart the head of 1 cauliflower (or if frozen is cheaper, one 12 oz bag, defrosted)
Drizzle with olive oil and salt and pepper on a lined baking sheet. Roast until golden on one side @ 15 minutes. Flip then roast for another 10 min. serve.

Suggested flavorings

Sharp & Savory – as above but add in paprika while cooking. When done sprinkle with parsley and a dash of sherry vinegar.

Salty & crunchy – as above but sprinkle with breadcrumbs before putting in the cover and toss in come capers

Hot and Sweet – as above but add in cayenne with the salt and pepper, at the end top with lime juice and some pine nuts if you’d like (these aren’t cheap)

Indian inspired – as above but add in curry powder with the salt and a pepper. At the end splash with lemon juice and sprinkle with cilantro

NOTE – acids can change the way things cook and get bitter so be sure to add the vinegar/lemon/lime juices at the end and not at the beginning

congrats on the weight loss! \o/

I've never been super wild about cauliflower, but I do like Aloo Gobi (Indian potatoes and cauliflower) with yogurt.

The roasted cauliflower with the lime juice at the end would be yummy. Thanks for the recipe! I might just buy some cauliflower after all. :)

thanks

I like aloo gobi as well but since I'm diabetic you probably wont' see a lot of potatoe recipes on here unless others post them up.

I'm made that cauliflower with the lime juice and I do like it

ooh, good job on the weight loss! *cheers*

I've lost one pound, which is good considering that I've been stuck in the house. The one pound is probably due to the fact that we ran out of junk food early on in the storm! XD

You know, looking at this cauliflower recipe, there's another one I remember from the South Beach diet that involves making cauliflower "mashed potatoes". I was really iffy about them, but they were so good! I'll have to go dig out the cook book and find it.

Good for you too (and ha, I hear you there)

yes, I have that recipe as well. (it's more work with the mashing but it was good). Put if up if you'd like

I suck at dieting (I'm much better with exercising) but my biggest thing is to eat as much soup as possible. I don't have it every day, but at least once a week we have a pot of soup and I try to have a bowl for one meal, so that'll cover one dinner and four or five lunches in a week. I usually use rice, barley, or a bag of microwave vegetables instead of noodles too. Or my mom can make this really delicious mixture of eggs and parm cheese that kind of comes out like dumplings.

that works for me during this time of year (trust me you'll see soup recipes going up too). I love soup. If down right it can fill you up without being too much

I hae a tip...

From: [identity profile] ookamikagakusha.livejournal.com
I am not sure if someone posted something like this...But here is what I found effectively worked with myself and a freind of mine...

First tip: if you are a soda drinker, completely cut it out of your diet (even diet soda) I found this helps shed at least 10 lbs.

I am not a firm believer in dieting, so my personal philosophy is to cut your servings...of everything. you can follow food pyamid guide lines for serving info. It also helps if you sort eat things all day as apposed to huge meals. I think an earlyish dinner between 4-6 can be fairly large compared to the other meals. Breakfast can be small and healthy, like friuts, yogurt and granola...or oatmean (though I am not a fan of oatmeal). Always eat before 8pm, no later...but if the need to eat arises like it sometimes does, you should eat light foods like crackers or fruit or whatever. I likea nice cup of tea at night myself. watch the sugar intake as well (and if you are diebetic and follow some of the rules, though my idiot father does not...ugh) than you know to use non-sugar products. Splenda, sweet n low ect.

If you are able to walk and don't have any serious injuries, try to walk as much as you can, you can do this by parking far, or walking around the mall...or something. Anyway thats just some suggestions I made...not trying to enforce or anything, you asked I gave! ^_^

THIS. I don't care how much they try to campaign that HFCS is so great and such a natural product and all that. It's not, and it's not good for you. Now that I avoid it, I tend to notice when I've had something with it, because it gives me heartburn almost immediately....

Any super refined sugar is not good for your body, and just contributes to problems like insulin resistance. What does your body do with stuff it can't figure out how to use (i.e. the cells are ignoring insulin trying to push sugars into them) Yes the insulin turns it into FAT and it gets stored.

I also agree with [livejournal.com profile] ookamikagakusha on portion control. We have been taught that we have to clean our plate, that super sized is better and seconds and even thirds are fine. So we eat too much meat, and no conception of how much a serving is of almost anything. You go to a restaurant and the SMALLEST steak you can get is 10 oz. That's 2.5 servings of meat in one sitting.

Also, sugared pop should go right out the window. I 100% agree with this. Diet pop with aspartame in it is known to make you feel hungry when you aren't necessarily hungry, so it can also be a contributing factor. IN summer I'm usually very good about drinking water and nothing else. In winter though.. not so much.. heh...

Meh... Unfortunately, I have gained 4 pounds this week. Of course, I have done very little to prevent it either. Last week I just felt too crappy to even try to eat differently. All I could deal with was cereal and pasta.

Today I'm doing better. So I'm going to be dropping a lot of unnecessary carbs out of my diet. I got a new bottle of vitamins and since I've been taking them I've felt somewhat better. I don't feel like I'm starving all the time the last day or so. Also I have been working on decaffeinating myself again, and that will probably help me not feel hungry constantly too. Head hurts a lot of the time though...

I'll have to update in a week. Today I'm at 158. That's nearly 20 pounds up from where I was in the middle of November. Ugh. Nothing fits.

PS. A serving of cauliflower is about half a cup. Same with broccoli and most other veggies.

PPS. Recipe calls for 'sale and pepper'. I think you mean 'salt and pepper' otherwise I don't know what 'sale' is if it's a spice.

I think two pounds is entirely believable. I used to envy the WW folks who could lose 3-5 pounds in a single week while I lost 0.2 pounds, but then they started off heavier than me. At 80+ pounds or more over goal, people tend to lose a lot. It slows down progressively the closer you get to your healthy goal weight.

That said, I put on a couple pounds over the holidays, and managed to take off 0.8 this week myself.

Unfortunately was my birthday this week which has meant traveling (nothing to do 've while waiting in the airport after your flight was been cancelled but eat and drink !)and going out to dinner... so not greaat week for dieting, so don't think I've lost, BUT at least I've managed to keep moving and do some working out, and eat pretty well on the OTHER days, so I think I'm gonna have to be happy with that this week..
Although, can I just vent here - grrrh on friends and family who try to force food on you when you are dieting. mom and dad, love you, but stop pushing scones, chips, bagels, donuts etc on me while I'm here. you're not helping....

I guess I'm rare in that I really like cauliflower (although it's kinda bloating) and often use it to substitute mashed potatoes...

I think soup on diet is a great idea too - looking forward to your receipes - I have a great thai soup receipe which I love to make when I'm dieting, so I'll contribute that when I get home..

I'm just simply working on drinking more water. I'm horribly bad about not drinking enough.

Once I get into the daily habit of drinking plenty of water, I'm going to try to get back to walking everyday.

Maybe by that time the weather will have stopped being an ass enough that I can actually do that with the EOiT. And actually going to the park with hills to do that, rather than our flat subdivision.

I lost another 3 pounds. :D I'm glad the weight loss has slowed to something saner (I probably lost a bunch of water weight the first week?) and I can fit into lots of clothes again, which is nice. Helen calculated that since start of diet my BMI has gone from 29 to 27.5.

Roasted cauliflower recipe sounds delicious! I love cauliflower, especially with some crunch to it. I roast a lot of veg like that, with a minimal olive oil coating, spices and salt (I eat waaaay too much salt). Broccoli is great like that too, especially with garlic, chilli and lemon juice. Aubergines (eggplant to you :P) work well too. This diet so far has involved a lot of roast veg for me. Good job I like it?
