more writing and photography thoughts
Feb. 10th, 2011 10:22 pmpeople are really enjoying the church and landscapes. I shall try to get more for you all. I have a boatload of both roaming around here. Wish I were a better photographer but it's one of those things i have little patience for even though i really enjoy it.
THinking about the church reminded me I wanted to make a note somewhere about an idea I got over christmas. There is an OLD church just outside of McDonald back home and I noticed a board from where it's been boarded up (my whole life) was loose and I had wantd to go back and shove a camera up under there just to see what was there.
I was thinking wouldn't it be cool if there were a dead body in there. An idea for a mystery is born.
For that matter, I'm reading The Poisoners Handbook which is one of those rare non-fictions that is so well written that it's like reading fiction, it goes down so easy. It's making me want to write 1920's fic.
totally random: My students think I should do stand up. snerk.
I came home to find out my cats must have been bored. There were shreds of that rug everywhere. shreds of a cat toy everywhere, shreds of CAT everywhere, and one wisenheimer found a plant leaf and shredded it too. So i had to vacuum everything.
Also my stomach still hurts. then my migraine kicked in and for extra added fun my period appeared out of nowhere. Oh thanks for nothing body.
Lemon Pasta
Salt
1 pound spaghetti
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, 3 turns of the pan
4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
2 lemons, zested and juiced
1/2 to 3/4 cup heavy cream
1 cup grated Parmigiano Reggiano
Handful flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped
1/2 cup (10 or 12 leaves) fresh basil, very thinly sliced
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Salt the water and drop the spaghetti into the pot.
Heat a large deep skillet over low heat. Add extra-virgin olive oil and garlic and crushed red pepper flakes.
When the pasta has been cooking about 5 minutes, add lemon juice, a ladle of the cooking water from the pasta and 1 cup of cream to the garlic and oil. Raise heat a bit to bring sauce to a bubble.
Drain pasta when it still has a good bite to it, al dente. Add lemon zest and half of the cheese to the cream sauce. Season the sauce with salt, to taste. Add pasta to pan and turn off heat. Toss the pasta with sauce a minute or 2, allowing it time to soak up the sauce.
Top the plates of pasta or platter with remaining cheese, parsley and basil.
I think this is one of Giada's

this is across from the church. it's probably a little too modern to interest me but i'll go poke around some time

Date: 2011-02-11 04:09 am (UTC)I think in a lot of ways we think alike -- old buildings that are boarded up fascinate me. I want to someday take the time to actually go and look at some of the old places around here (there's not that many, Phoenix being what it is!)...

Date: 2011-02-11 04:21 am (UTC)There's a few places around here -- Phoenix is big into "it's old, tear it down!" but there's a couple of places that are neat, like the old race track and near us, there is a big old building that used to be an Abby that was deserted -- I need to stop there and take some pictures!

Date: 2011-02-11 02:48 pm (UTC)I really should, before it's torn down; it's an old section of town (and in Phoenix, that means probably mid-60's), and a residential area, so when the housing market recovers, I'm sure it's going to go down and be replaced with single-family homes...

Date: 2011-02-12 01:10 am (UTC)WAY out in west Phoenix there's an abandoned race track. Someone's got some great pictures of it online, but he had to trespass to get them.
