Cooking was a good way to take his mind off of things. Of course it also served as a reminder that he was serving these…creatures when he’d much rather be doing naughty, nasty things to them. Instead, he was making jewel cakes, lace cookie and trifles, and of course, chocolate confections that would make their mouths water. Sebastian didn’t quite see the appeal but, of course, the duty of preparing for Lizzie and her mother’s visit fell to him. Having a competent staff would only bring up questions on how Sebastian was able to do some much so easily, so patently inhumanly.

Sebastian felt Valentine’s Day was nothing but a bother. Frankly, he was sure Ciel felt the same, but Lizzie probably loved the day more than anything and Sebastian wouldn’t mind seeing Ciel’s tough Aunt Francis again. He found her amusing. He’d gotten Ciel dressed for the occasion; hopefully the boy had not gone and done something to ruin the effect. The desserts were almost done. Flowers were already strewn the parlor, not leaving that to Finny’s less than artistic gardening abilities. Sebastian had even gone so far as to hire a quartet to come play for a few hours.

No detail escaped the devil’s careful eye. Sebastian had purchased Lizzie a Valentine and made Ciel sign it. It was a little mechanical bird in a cage that flapped its wings. It was quite remarkable. Even his young master seemed impressed. Some days, Sebastian felt like that trapped bird but one day he would fly free. Until then he would smile and do his duty. If nothing else, he was never bored.

Nice introspective piece on Sebastian. I can't help but think he feels this way at times...

it's new to me too (the manga. I haven't seen the anime)

thank you very much. It's rather hard to tell how he actually feels about Sebastian (or at least in the early manga). I think there have to be days he'd like to eat them all or something

I'm totally new to this series too. I keep starting to watch it but then I'm usually working on a project and need to be able to look at my hands from time to time. I can't find it dubbed so I keep switching to something else instead. Neat to see some stories popping up though. Might have to just sit and chill for a half an hour every night and watch an episode.
