how did we get through 2 months of the year already? I've seen some success stories on my list today. I'm not one of them. Apparently my plateau is as long as Australia. Whee. How are you all doing.

I have to confess, I'm not an Oscar's person but I clicked on a link that promised an Oscar worthy body (which really I sort of thought that was insulting but whatever.) Anyhow it's a series of workout types from celebrity trainers and I looked them over and thought I'd share them here celebrity trainer work outs

A lot of them were fairly simply and requiring no real equipment. I mean you could substitute soup cans for arms weights in the triceps work out and I'm pretty sure even I could do the playing card one (okay I'll have to misuse tarot cards at the moment or see if I can find my fma set).

and my once weekly recipe. Got this one from the new weight watcher's book and it has to be one of the best new recipes I've tried in a long time.

Orzo with grilled eggplant and tomatoes

6 ounces orzo
1 small eggplant @ ¼ pound cut into ½ inch rounds
1 small red bell pepper, quartered lengthwise and seeded
1 large tomato seeded and chopped
½ cup crumbled fat-free feta
Pitted kalamata olives coarsely chipped
2 scallions sliced
¼ cup chopped snipped dill
¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
Grated zest and juice of 1 lemon
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
¼ teaspoon black pepper.
1. Cook orzo according to package directions omitting salt if desired (feta and olives are salty), transfer to bowl.
2. grill vegetables (if it’s not grilling season, the heat the oven to 400 and roast the veggies)
3. cut eggplant and bell pepper into ½ inch pieces. Add to orzo with all remaining ingredients and toss to mix well
4. ¼ cup is serving size, 134 calories per serving. Points plus value 3 and you can substitute almost any of the veggies for ones you like.

I've already emailed it over to him, though I don't like pasta, so we might try it with couscous.

that should also be good

i'm not sure I've ever met anyone who didn't like pasta before. what don't you like if you don't mind me being nosy

I don't like how it tastes. If I eat it, it has to be completely drowned in whatever else it's with (i.e. lots of sauce and veggies) so that it's not noticeable.

hmmm interesting since I mostly see it as tasteless and requiring flavoring.

Then again i don't like wheat pasta for taste reasons.

I do like wheat pasta. :D But we don't eat a lot of pasta here.

hahaha see that smells and i can't eat it. I'm Italian I think it's mandatory I eat pasta. However, being diabetic, I eat far less of it now. I tend to get the barilla plus (which is mostly chickpea protein) or spelt, trying to find ones kinder to my sugar levels

Didn't do much last week and not sure how much I'm going to get done this week as there had been a bacteria that was going between some of the horses at the barn. They figure it was on some food someone had given them so their noses were all snotty and some got an abscess from the bacteria. Go up today and find that my horse has an abscess now so I need to go up every night to try to clean it up and get it to drain.

oh ugh, poor horses. good luck

Oh yeah. Some of them are cleared up but there are two of them that are still all snotty. Poor ponies.

Thanks.

Well after that alarming 4 pound jump in one day, I'm back down now to 151.8 at this morning's weigh in. I had to seriously reassess. I was eating 1200 calories a day, (and sometimes not even fitting them all in) and still not loosing anything, so I had to take a look at what kinds of calories I was eating... and then that least week of complete fail because I was just hungry constantly so it was really hard not to be tempted by thinks like Donna's homemade bread or chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting made from scratch.

So The last two days I've been doing the induction phase of Atkins to try to get back on track a little. Atkins worked for me grandly before, but then a couple of years ago I tried it again without much luck. I think it was more about not paying attention to how much I was eating and unintentional cheating than it actually not working. So we'll see how it goes. I've shed off 4 pounds in water weight and now officially am back down to where I started 8 weeks ago, and an additional .7 down from there. I'll let you know how it's going.

The fact is, it's not like I have a LOT to lose. I need to lose maybe 20 pounds. 25 at the most. I'm not worried about the pounds, I'm worried about none of my clothes fitting and needing to look good for my livelihood. I'm sure that depression plays a role too, as I face the fact that what I'm doing right now may not be enough to support me yet as much as I might want it to. I might have to go and look for another job as well, and that stress of course does not help one lose weight.

stress absolutely does nothing to help lose weight.

the other concern would be the hormonal stuff. it plays a role in weight gain and inability to lose

This recipe looks good. I wonder if I can make it without the pasta, and using ordinary feta.

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
[livejournal.com profile] enemytosleep is considering couscous instead of pasta, long grain rice would probably work. ordinary feta would increase the calorie count some but probably not extraordinarily so

For the moment I'm more concerned about the large amount of carbohydrates in pasta. Rice would be the same thing. So either of the three would be off limits this week and next. any of the three would put me over my limit. Eliminating the orzo etc would actually reduce the calories more than adding regular feta vs the lowfat stuff.

Date: 2011-02-28 05:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
yes but then you move it from main dish to veggie side dish. you can eliminate the carbs by using low impact pastas like spelt or chickpea base

Date: 2011-02-28 08:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ishte.livejournal.com
Hmm. I don't think that will work during the induction phase. half a cup of spelt pasta is still over 200 calories, and more disturbingly 40 grams of carbs only 5 of which are discounted in fiber. that's 35 grams in one dish. I couldn't even find any information about pasta made with Chickpeas. I like chickpeas, but half a cup is 18g of carbs and no fiber at all, so it nets 18g. Not to mention that they're pretty expensive. I think I'll have to save that for after induction once I get my metabolism straight so it can burn fat instead of storing it.

Well, the batteries on our scales went, causing it to first weigh light then become unreliable. We haz new batteries now, and annoyingly it looks like I've both plateaued and didn't lose those last two pounds. Still, I'm 8lb above a BMI of 25, and have maintained.

I'm trying to be a notch stricter this week and have started going running again, so we'll see where that gets me by this time next week!

good luck

Been reading up on my rooibos tea tonight and thought it might make for a talking point in next week's post (calorie and caffeine free, naturally sweet, lots of anti0oxidants, low in tannin, etc. etc.).

Date: 2011-03-02 03:44 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
you want some? I loathe it and I have a ton. I will mail it to you.

But yes please do make it a talking point because surely there will be others who do like it

and I was serious. I have a friend who insists on buying me teavana stuff, and almost everything she gives me is rooibos and no one here likes it. I will mail i t to you

I drink everything but red and herbals (I'm allergic to either chamomille or rose hips it's hard to tell since they're usually together)

Oh and didn't mean to come on so negative. sigh, it's been a long sickly year so far.

And I thought I did but i don't see it. email i t to me and give me forever to get it all ready since i am slow
