So it turns out that the hydralics were the least of my worries. My plane in Seattle is late. We board and find out the reason it was late was they had a medical emergency and now the oxygen and other supplies are depleted. it'll be '10 minutes' for the contractor to replace it. Nearly 2 hours later this finally happens, meanwhile we're trapped on a packed air-bus.

At this point we're all in a fine panic because nearly everyone has connectors in Philly. NONE of us are going to make it and these were the last planes out for the night so we all might need to stay in Philly. USAir (which wanted 9 dollars for food, half a sandwich or fruit and cheese, thanks no, i'll eat the muffin I grabbed in Seattle for dinner) busted their butts to get us through the rough skies so they wouldn't have to pay to put up an airbus full of people. We landed but can't get to the terminal since someone left equipment on the tarmac so we wait for that to be moved

Philly has a stupid system. they only put up flights departing in that concourse. I am in another one. We're all running (literally, the FMA messenger bag had a camera, two books, my wallet, my netbook and other sundries in it, banging off my thigh which is now bruised). We get there, the gate was changed, race to a different gate to find out they changed the flight time.

I get on the plane. There is NO food places open in Philly so that muffin really was dinner. I get to Pittsburgh, call the parents to come get me. My luggage is destroyed, the inside support of one is shattered and the wiring and zippers torn off the other. there is no place to whine about this. My parents' car has trouble and they had to double back and get mine.

don't you wish you could travel with me?

Oh my goodness all of that because of one emergency and than someone else's laziness to move stuff off of the tarmac and than what the heck is up with all of the boarding changes no wonder you stated that quite possibly i would have been held for the FBI if i had to go through all of that and now you have to wait for the parents to go back ad get your car lord i don't know how you made it but thank god you did, I hope that your leg isn't bruised to badly after all of th jarring your bag did to your leg.

o.O That seriously sucks. When one thing went, it seemed the airport luck when downhill.

And airlines are raising their prices yet again. They shouldn't be surprised when they don't make so much.

seriously, they've made air travel so unappealing no wonder no one wants to do it.

Wow, this is like when I traveled from visiting you. If you and I traveled by plane together, maybe our disasterous travels would be negated by each other?

Let's not think about how they could be worse.

Really? They would've had to pay? I wonder if that's changed, because they sure didn't offer anything like that when I was traveling and missed my flight that one time.

yeah this was all kinds of special.

They used to have to if it was their fault you were late

It would've been nice to have them pay for my hotel room at the airport, but I was just thankful I found the room, and a place to sleep in the airport without having to sleep on top of my luggage.

That's how I found the little hotel in the airport, I was walking and walking and trying to find a place where I could sleep and - ta-dah! There it was.

Oh man, I am so glad I don't travel by air very much. Lately everyone I know who has been traveling, nothing has gone smoothly with the airlines or airplanes or anything.

Seriously, folks, as Southwest moves it stops east, I can't help but recommend it. Barb and I have never had any problems with them at all, and the first two pieces of luggage are still free AND they still give (yes, GIVE) you a snack during flights. (Admittedly just peanuts or crackers, but it's something!) Even the short hop from Phoenix to Las Vegas.

I can update you on it when we fly them to Newark in September, but really -- Southwest rocks.

At least the destination itself was great, if the travel wasn't!

I wonder what happened to USAir. They've sucked like the suck since whichever-airline-it-was bought out US West, which was a GOOD airline.

I know Southwest does have really limited hubs, unfortunately; but they ARE expanding. It's just this month they've started going to New York (which is how we managed to book).

USair really sucks at this point

That would b e cool. I did like SW (I did not like having to stand in line for a seat though).

If you're flying SW, just remember to log in early the day before to check in online and get an A boarding pass. Otherwise, the standing in line isn't so bad -- your space is assigned, after all.

not when i flew it, it was first come first serve and it was a nightmare. they may have changed that snice it was causing issues at teh gate

From: [identity profile] wildrider.livejournal.com
Oh, yeah, that changed a long time ago. If you have boarding pass B20, you stand at B20, with B19 in front of you and B21 behind.

well that's good. i had to hold a place for two old ladies who couldn't stand and the gate agents kept threatening the younger passengers who were crowded the gate

Jesus, I will never travel with you. You're like the Typhoid Mary of air travel. o_O

I'm glad you're finally home safe and sound though.

Umm, i think it`s best we don`t ever travel together, or even on the same day, given my luck....

still, it does sound like you had a really good trip so...

I am way behind in my reading, and email in general...so I'll be doing catch up, hopefully, later tonight. Just had to comment on the fact you definitely do seem to have adventures even doing what, to most of us, would be every day events. Glad you made it home in relatively one piece!

That sucks. I've had problems with USAir in the past. I suspect that their fleet may be very old, since my problems were equipment failures. :-(
