Roy either tangled with the nasty new cat next door or a coon and is missing a dime-sized piece of flesh from his neck. The vet told me to keep him quiet and bring him in come morning (which is good since I can't afford emergency vet prices, not that we HAVE an emergency vet here). So I have one cat with a nasty wound, one cat losing his fucking mind and then there's Kanda placidly watching it all and instigating where he can.

But as to the question, what would a Japanese man pack as a picnic lunch (especially when he's trying to get his lover to be more adventuresome eating wise). I was going to ask where in FL to picnic and thought of the springs but decided it's a backyard picnic because it's supposed to be sexy times. and frankly FL does not equal picnice to me since it's so freaking full of bugs. I never wanted to sit on the ground there and picnic benches aren't sexy to me.

Quick response: some kind of bento? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bento) Or onigiri (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onigiri), which you can make at home pretty easily with leftover rice and add all kinds of fillings to.

I wonder if the guy who runs J-list might answer your question. He's an American who married a Japanese wife and he sounds very personable.

Oh, Roy, you rascal. Too bad vets don't run two-for-one specials. :-(

T.T ou I hope your cats are just in a phase or something and straighten out, and I hope Roy's okay. Sounds painful.

One cat may seriously need rehomed. I think this is a bad environment for him. Roy is a disaster, always was, always will be the poor old thing.I'll get him fixed up

thanks

Hmm. Japanese obento lunches don't tend to be very adventurous because they're put together with an eye to spoilage--or, rather, not spoiling. Rice balls with something inside--a sour plum is a favorite--eggs either scrambled or as a rolled omelet, sliced vegetables in clever shapes, anything pickled. If you want sushi peeled off of still-live fish, sea urchin roe and other exotic fare, the guys will need a restaurant date.

And picnics on the ground aren't so bad here if you have a good quilt or rug to sit on. Or if you picnic in the spring or fall when the weather is cool and dry and the bugs are dormant.
