One of my former students returned today to see us and she just took her state license to practice medicine and begin her residency. She gave us all a hug and had some really good stories and I am so glad to see someone succeed like that and had a small hand in it. I reall do feel proud (and then I came home and graded tests...) I believe her residency is in pediatric oncology.

Soul has taken a major step backwards. He has now stopped playing ball with me and won't come out and sit on the couch. He hides all day/night under the futon and no one is picking on him. I don't get it. no one hurt this cat or even yelled at him but he is progressively becoming more feral than the day I brought him in.

I had the weirdest pee dream last night. I was made the head of something in a big household (I got the impression that ELD was somehow invovled) but I couldn't figure out why I was hired because everything I was supposed to be doing was already done. I was mostly just functioning as a go-between between the house and the kitchen but for some reason in the very narrow hallway btween the two were three public toilet stalls. I had to go but it was SO narrow. I couldn't sit down without ramming my fat ass into the toilet paper holder. The person next to me said you had to stand on the seats to pee in these things. I managed that, got out, tried to go back to work, tried to figure out WHY these would be within inches of the kitchen then had to go back into it to pee again and woke up (and rather glad I didn't pee the bed or something..)

I finally caught up with my monday viewing and I had a problem with Eureka It REALLY felt like someone was a Buffy/ANgel fan and stole a few things, like two lovers stopping the world to stay within a perfect moment (though they did it for different reasons than happened on Angel and it was really a very different story other than that key aspect) and Holly is Willow. Long redhair, early seasons babbling,science-geek.

Yay for the successful student. Pediatric oncology is a tough field, emotionally as much if not more so than technologically. Your ex-student is a brave woman.

Poor Soul. Something has certainly traumatized him, and I don't know what it would take to fix him.

Pee dreams are weird. I had one similar--the tiny bathroom was so crammed with hanging clothes(!) that I could barely reach the pot to sit on it, and there were two toilets in there with no dividers between them, and some old biddy sitting on the one beside me.

Love the bridge. Love the little pine tree beside the bridge. Love the long-legged lantern just visible in the ferns in the background. Sigh.

Oh, great, we're recycling each others' pee dreams.

Bok Tower Gardens is centered on the carillon, and it's pretty generic, culturally speaking. Kanapaha has more Japanese things in the gift shop than in the garden, though there is a bamboo deer-chaser clacking away in the bamboo garden. I don't know of any Japanese gardens in Florida, really. I think we're too tropical for classic Japanese landscaping.

That's very cool about your former student! Congrats. Remind yourself it's better as you grade the papers.

The art for the posters is really nice. I kept expecting it to be done by the guy who did Strangers in Paradise, because he did that beautiful "Willow and Tara" comic book, and the art looks similar.

Maybe he's just freaked out over *you*. His whole world fell apart for awhile there and he can't hack it. When we moved to Florida, I had to keep Wimsey tranqed for a week because all he would do was sit in a corner and shake. This is the cat who used to try to attack dogs. He did eventually get over it.

Jackson's very Buddhist in his techniques. Like try to keep your energy balanced around Soul (yours is probably a tangle right now) and treat him like he's feral and woo him again. You probably even smell different, which is freaking him out.

Again, I wish I was nearer to try to help. He's a good boy who's just having a meltdown.

I wish I could say he was a good boy. He never really settled in in the 9 months I've had him he's always been horribly skittish but he was pooping on the furniture and peeing everywhere

I've always been dubious about keeping him. None of the vets I've spoken to think the feliway will work. I doubt it will either. I think he really needs to be in a house with no other animals since he's hiding from them as well or picking fights

Very sorry to hear about Soul... that's sad and troubling, but I've seen it before. Not sure what causes it - perhaps just his natural personality emerging now that he's older. I have seen it also when the cat (or dog) was just feeling unwell. Headache, tummy trouble, stuff like that.

Has Soul had any head trauma? What about abnormal growths on his head? My Mom's cat, Sheba (whom I adored!), developed a cancer which changed her behavior a bit. It was more of a don't touch me, I hurt kind of thing, not I'm a wild cat. The reason I thought of this is that an artist I follow on FA has a parent going through brain cancer and is having MAJOR personality fluctuations.

I found it boring, misogynistic and derivative to be honest. None of my RL friends liked it. We were all so very disappointed since we loved Angel and Buffy (then again I'd take Firefly any day over the misogynistic Dollhouse any day. Oh Joss, what happened?_

Awww, okay. I'm easily pleased by rocket launchers, anyway. It WAS quite a change from Buffy; I was kind of expecting a common thread when Firefly started and didn't see much of one at all. I just didn't really mind.
