weight off week 30 and various sundries
Jul. 31st, 2011 10:27 pmmostly because all I did today was work on lectures, made a test, graded a test and edited crap. Nothing to report there.
I DID go out to the garden and get the first crop of tomatoes, an eggplant and some herbs and strawberries. was going to take a picture but the camera has given up the ghost I think. That misty shit like on yesterday's pictures is what it usually gets with the shutter speed slows down due to low batteries. that said I replaced the batteries but it's STILL not working. granted they're older. I sure hope my camera didn't die in under 5 year. I prefer a real camera to a camera phone (or at least MY camera phone)
SO weight...still on the plateau. whatever.
My brother went to his in-laws pool and sat outside with them so that's a step.
Here's a recipe (using above mentioned eggplant)
SPICY HOISIN GLAZED EGGPLANT (BOBBY FLAY's recipe from foodnetwork)
• 1 tablespoon canola oil
• 1-inch piece fresh ginger, roughly chopped
• 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
• 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
• 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
• 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
• 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
• 1 medium eggplant, ends trimmed and cut into 1/2-inch thick slices, lengthwise
• 6 tablespoons olive oil
• Salt and freshly ground black pepper
• 2 tablespoons freshly chopped cilantro leaves
Directions
Heat the oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the ginger, garlic and red chili flakes and cook until soft, 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from the heat and whisk in the hoisin, vinegar and soy sauce until combined and then strain, reserving the sauce.
Heat grill to high.
Brush eggplant slices on both sides with the oil and season with salt and pepper. Place the slices on the grill and grill until golden brown and slighty charred, 4 to 5 minutes. Brush with some of the glaze, turn over and continue grilling just until cooked through, brushing with more of the glaze, 3 to 4 minutes longer. Remove from the grill and brush with the remaining glaze. Transfer to a platter and sprinkle with the cilantro.
NOTE: It has a good taste and you can subsitute the grill for roasting in the oven. However, be wary of your hoisin sauce. mine had enough sodium that I should have skipped both the soy sauce AND salting the eggplant steps
Also this is my new favorite song that could be Royai after the Promised Day (or Ed/Winry, though in my head songs for these couples are often interchangable)
All that You are -Goo Goo Dolls

Naru is looking at the tree that nearly got him.

all the shattered bits are where it hit Naru...i have NO idea how he's not dented/scratched

why yes I parked near the dumpster. I usually park one car length closer...

Date: 2011-08-01 02:39 am (UTC)We lost a big tree recently, too. Our bradford pear split in a thunderstorm a few weeks ago and just missed hitting my mustang. Sadly, the whole tree had to be taken down (sad both for losing the tree and the hit to our checkbook- cost us a bloody fortune.)
