Luckily it's a slow steady rain so the streams aren't freaking out too badly and the plants needed it. it was looking like late sept. around here. The weather kept me from my planned Labor Day trip to Cincinatti. The weather maps said it wasn't raining there but I don't trust them. Besides, I slept like hell last night and had to be up early. Then when I was discussing it over with Mom this morning (Dad answered and goes, what are you doing calling so early? Shouldn't you be asleep, yes I SHOULD) and that's when a rare moment of intelligence snuck up on me. IN a few weeks I'm going to the Ohio Renn fest and it's almost IN Cinci. Why not just rent a freaking room for the night and do both? wow, there I go. Instead of make 2, nearly 300 mile round trips in just a few weeks. I mean, I'm going to Spring Grove cemetery. It's not like that's going anywhere.

BTW thanks for all the beta offers for both my fan and original fiction. You guys seriously rock.

Now today I know where my day went. I WORKED. I finished a springkink, i worked on original fic, worked up one full lecture, started two more, contacted coworkers, cleaned house, exercised my arm off, asked for new types of exercises, made a pizza and am back for more. Granted I'm winding down which is okay because I have at freaking 8 AM meeting. shoot me.

And do the it's cool dance with me. WOO HOO, my bedroom is cool. YAY. The house is cool. I'm almost not sweating. Of course it would help if I didn't look like Homer Simpson jiggling as I do my dance.

I feel the urge to write up character information sheets on my original characters. Anyone interested in seeing that?

got this meme from [livejournal.com profile] bay115

1. Reply to this post with "FOOTPRINTS!", and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

The OT3, they are so fun to write. I love writing Maes/Roy/Riza (and Gracia if you want to make it hte OT4) and someone came up with this chibi version of the three. Doesn't Roy look intense? He's thinking about all the sex.

Ah the good evil Doctor's bunny. Where would Ni Jianyi be without it? Every Mad Scientist type needs a bunny to spur him on and every mad writer needs his/her plot bunnies.

This is one of the sweetest icons I have. I love the Resembool trio and am a sucker for childhood stories with them (not to mention adult ones too). I just love this little puddle of children, napping in the sun.

Mai & Zuko, my favorite pairing from Avatar. I watched Avatar for Zuko. No like. Okay I loved the anime and I liked all the characters but I was in love with Zuko (what, dark haired angsty boys who fling fire are a weakness). Mai amused the hell out of me and I love them together. So yay for canon pairings in this case.

haha i just put this one up to comment on Gretchen and Lady Norbert's story this week. I've had it for ages but had found no real place to use it. A friend of mine made it and can't you just imagine the purple prose Mustang would come up with (of course he might surprise us and be a good writer)

notice the cones of sugar on the counter top? I need to look into when they went from cones to cubes/bags. ELD, Silvrethorn, was it in the Mary Todd Lincoln House where they related the story of murder by sugar cone?

I think I vaguely remember the sugar cone thing now that you mention it, but I really remember them saying Lincoln liked to lie on the staircase and read.

SHELF OF BOTTLES!

And they all look authentic, too, no reproductions. *drool* (Not that I don't like repros, too, mind you; I have both.)

yeah the tour guide knew that they were originals and worth some money (especially the clay jars) but had no real knowledge of them.

From: [identity profile] wildrider.livejournal.com
Many of them actually aren't worth all that much, unless they're super-special bottles; bottle collecting is more about knowing about the glass and where it came from than the worth of the bottle. There are bottles that can bring in hundreds, but most run in the $25-$50 range (especially medicine bottles, which were pretty common). Of course, some pricing may have changed since my copy of bottle pricing was published. (Bottles are actually worth a great deal MORE if their labels are intact, which is why the pricing is chancy; most people soak labels off, which is why it's the label that adds the value.)

The clay jars, now, they may have some more serious value.

Date: 2011-09-07 03:53 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
yeah it's the jars with more value but a few bottles can be like you said, if there is something special. which is what my grandmother believes all those freaking bottles in her garage have.

It's very depressing to discover something you thought was worth a lot turns out to be basically worthless -- of course, all collecting just depends on who is willing to pay for it, and how much. I had been looking for ages for the Ruby Red Jim Beam "Jeannie" bottle and every time one popped up on eBay it would go for WAY more than I was willing to pay for it (bottle collector book says it's worth about $30, tops, WITH labels attached); every time people would bid it up to the stratosphere.

Then I found it in an antique shop in Bisbee for $6.

It's all a matter of how you look at it!

Date: 2011-09-07 04:09 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
this is also so true. or for that matter it was worth something when you bought it then the market falls out (thinking on the buttload of Buffy collectibles I have which granted i never paid that much for, never more than 30$ but still)

Date: 2011-09-07 04:28 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
yeah definitely. guess that's still not as bad as paying thousands for an artist only to have people no longer want their stuff 20 years later

Date: 2011-09-07 04:30 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wildrider.livejournal.com
That's why I only collect now for myself, if I like something, not for its potential value. I have learned my lesson there.

Sugarloaves were sold "well into the twentieth century," according to Wikipedia, but were pretty much supplanted by sugar cubes and granulated sugar in the late 1800's. Pieces were cut off the loaf with a bladed, pliers-like instrument called a sugar nip. I don't remember mention of a murder by sugarloaf, but the sugar nip sounds pretty lethal.

I own a gorgeous cobalt blue bottle. Apparently I shouldn't let ELD see it, though, for fear of the grabby hands.

We're getting the fringes of Tropical Storm Lee. Clear one minute, torrential rain the next. Lucky for us Florida is too flat for flash floods and mudslides, though standing water is always a problem.

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
well that's good to know. thanks. yeah she bashed the dude in the head with it then melted the blood off. the nips sound like a good idea too

no you shouldn't. or me either for that matter.

opps. this too is Lee related but it's a typical midwest all day rain.

Aaaaiieee!! I love salt-glazed pottery - and MOAR cobalt glass! That looks like one of the shops (or should I say "shoppes") in Colonial Williamsburg - I'll bet they sold rock candy, horehound drops, and candied ginger!

Yeah, as a latecomer to your original fiction (I haven't even had a chance to start yet, with all the crap that's been falling on my head lately :P) the character description sheets would help a lot.

I love icons, and would do the icon meme thing with you, but I am such a techno-spazz, I don't have a clue how to embed the icons in the post, so I just am an epic fail there. (You should have seen me trying to learn how to make and load my own icons into LJ a few years ago! And I still am bad at ones with text and can't do backgrounds or animated ones.)

isn't it pretty pottery and glass, ah I love them. I'm sure they did but actually this particular shop, I forgot to mention only 'sold' to outsiders. if you were a Harmonist you got it for free.

yeah if i get lazy I might work those sheets up. they're kind of fun to so.

it's easier on firefox, if you right click youcan view image and grab the url.

From: [identity profile] helliongoddess.livejournal.com
You mean, if I right-click on the icon (I mostly just use firefox) and then click copy image location, that will give me a URL I can use to just post the image in the journal post, in the right size and everything? Can I do it that way in the RTE, or do I have to use the HTML one? (sorry to be so useless with this stuff... but if I never ask, I never learn.)

Date: 2011-09-07 01:48 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
yes, right click and go to view image. click on that. It'll bring up the icon in its own window. copy the url and paste it into this html code

<img src="insert ur"(space) />

see the (space) clip all that out. it's just there to tell you there is a space between the end quote and the / it won't work without them.

no problem. i had to ask again last night. i hate firefox and never remember how to see the images (but you can't do it on IE or chrome that I'm aware of but not sure of the latter
