writerly ways
Sep. 11th, 2011 02:12 pmI'm not really in the right mind set to do much with my writerly ways this week. I did promise CIS's but I lost one of the ones I typed so later. I'll put in CDQ's 'character development sheets' that I modified from my Elfquest ones from decades ago who modified them from some acting lesson to help actors get into the heads of their characters. For those not in the know, back in the day Elfquest didn't let you use canon characters so ALL characters in fandom were OC's and we used the CIS's and CDQ's so other authors/artists could get to know our characters. I've found them very helpful in keeping my characters set in my novels especially since I write so many at once.
Before I post those up though, let's talk author's names. I'm still waffling on my non-erotica pen name. I have long considered Concetta Evans (Concetta is another great granny). I think Mom would really like me to use Guiseppina, well Josephine, her grandma. Jo Evans might not be horrible either. I DO think author names are important enough. I know I don't want anything too odd. There are a few on goodreads that I've seen as I shamelessly whore myself on the giveaways and my thought was these are SO odd that I will never remember nor be able to sell them. Also some are just too cutesy or eyerolling like one of the authors on my erotica list who uses the surname 'tushmore' oh come on now. I couldn't take that name seriously.
So has anyone else put any thought into your nom de plume?
These two meet the characters are from my steampunk mystery. They're the two main characters
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT QUESTIONNAIRE

2) List four things you dislike very much – lawbreakers, being teased, liars, alcoholism, my name and yes I know that’s five, deal with it.
3) Did you have a happy childhood? – Not really. Don’t get me wrong, Julian is the best brother ever and Mel and her dad were wonderful but Dad was a mean drunk. He ruined my childhood.
4) Describe an incident in your childhood that you think most affected you. – Mom’s death. Not only did we lose her, Dad just couldn’t deal. He just drank and drank. It didn’t help that the Mom’s school sweetheart never got over losing her to Dad and killed her then got away. I swear if I ever find him, I’ll forget I’m a cop.
5) Describe your mother and how you feel about her. – Mom was a wonderful woman. She was our sun. Dad loved her more than anything. Julian and I did, too. She was the best cook and she knew how to handle me and Jules so we never felt too bad when we fought over stuff. She deserved better than she got.
