a matter of perspective

two weeks ago after having temps in the high 90's, 80 felt cool. Today after two weeks of cool weather 80 feels like 100 and my plants, which had looked so beautiful wilted all to hell.

I totally ruined some kids' days today. After work, i did my usual go sit in the library while my clothes wash. I leave to go put stuff in the dryer and this tween boy with long blond hair passes me up and he's snickering. I see two tween girls laughing and wiggling fingers with tape on the ends at each other. As I pass, I see the idiots have taped 'sux me' onto the library wall. They see me and go back into the library. As I'm pulling clothes out of the laundry I see the girls go up the street and think well darn I should have told the librarians right off.

Well, when I go back in I see the words have been removed and are crumpled in a tape ball on the sidewalk. I go in and report it to the librarians who are all friendly with me. Someone had already reported they thought the boy was up to me. As LT, the head librarian was asking me what the girls looked like, they walk back in and I nod and say 'it's them.'

She goes and reams them. they deny it. Later, G, another librarian asks me what kind of tape. 'Masking' D, a third librarian, says 'THEY HAVE THE TAPE OUT ON THE TABLE RIGHT NOW.' While she keeps an eye on the girls, I go show G. where the tape ball was and when we get back in, D is running the boy back to L's office as this idiot was taping up stuff IN the library. About this point I decide, thereis only 5 minutes left of my laundry, I want to go back over there just in case those girls DID see me in my car.

I DID see Soul last night at midnight. An hour's worth of trying to get him in was met with open hostility. Lots of hissing, spitting and yowling. I think sillymagpie was right. He never fully domesticated. I think he might be gone for good. I put out some food. Either he'll calm back down or he won't. there's a cat box on the porch for his use too. Sigh.

And I did watch this past week's FMA:B when Al and his soul are rejoined. WTF was up with the evil clown/circus music??

Sorry to hear your plants wilted. The temperature has dropped a bit here as rain clouds move in.

Soul could be undomesticable or he may have some problem that is making him paranoid. No way to know. :-(

I never knew billiards were played with balls of the same color, unlike pool.

I guess we should be glad they were using masking tape and not spray paint. (sigh)

We took a neighbor's cat in tonight since the fire dept was there (her furnace had started smoking!). She was hissing at our black boy for awhile. I guess he thought she was going to make an interesting new girlfriend! :D

Yeah, I know several people who started out to teach high school and are now doing altogether different things because they got so discouraged with the kids and the system. My husband has to deal with mostly 4th graders and homeschooler groups in his job as a historical interpreter, and they are bad enough (along with the helicopter parents.) Teenagers can be a real nightmare. And I honestly think things are a lot worse now than they were 13 years ago when I left the library - kids seem to be much more rude, spoiled, and less respectful of authority.

Pretty much this. Most parents today are too busy trying to be their child's 'friend' instead of giving them a good swat on the butt if they misbehave. Or are worried about someone screaming child abuse if they do try to discipline their child

Kids are given instant gratification and not taught any manners. And this is our future?

Agree wholeheartedly. Sometimes I feel almost guilty when I realize with a degree of comfort that I probably won't be around to have to deal with the consequences of the current teenagers running the country (I'm 54.) But then I might have grandchildren that will, and just on general principle, I hate to think of things falling apart completely because of one generation of spoiled undisciplined brats... (But then that's what the "Greatest Generation" said about my generation, the baby boomers, isn't it? *lol* )

I really do think the rampant commercialism and materialism - which leads to the desire for instant gratification - is responsible for a lot of it - and behind it lies corporate greed, to a certain extent. But there's also the personal responsibility - or lack thereof - of parents, too. But then so many of the parents are just as acquisitive and shallow as the kids they are raising... Something needs to change, but I'm not sure I know what the answer is. It may happen by default when all the oil runs out.

I did have a feral cat, Delgado, his mom was a sweetheart and one of my outdoor cats. He hung around and we fed him, and he wound up being Li'l's best friend and boyfriend, until Li'l and I moved out.
