I had a really good time tonight at the nano planning meeting. Okay we did no real planning, mostly said what we might want to do then bullshitted for 3 hours. I wish I could afford to live in Athens. I could love seeing these people more often. I enjoy my coworkers but none of them are geeks. Literally everyone in my nano group are geeks.

I come home, turn on facebook and learn a classmate died today. Apparently he fell some 30 feet at work. Mike grew up on the farm adjacent to my grandfather's farm lands. Too damn young to die.





from my 25th h.s. reunion. These are all the Bulger Kids. on the opposite side from me, with the hat on and the skoal ring in the front pocket is Mike.

I wish there were a Nano group in Central Phoenix. I ought to see if there are any get-togethers for some of the others (East and West/North Phoenix, I think, have groups).

i have to drive 50 miles to get to mine but they are literally all fantasy/sf/urban fantasy writers so it's worth it or at least those of us who stick with the group. the other genres might just feel uncomfortable and leave or something

it''s just under 50 miles. I'll be out there once a week maybe in nov. We keep talking about doing a month group but it keeps falling thru (a lot of these people are Ohio Uni kids and then the 4 adults)

I'm not blonde, my hair is dark auburn. It looks a little lighter here due to flash but I'm definitely no blonde

Sorry about your friend. There's always something much more sad and unnerving when someone close to our own age passes away, whether it's sudden and tragic like his, or by illness. A close friend of mine (he'd been like an uncle to my kid when she was small) died suddenly from a heart attack a couple of years ago - and he was always the tennis player & runner, the fit one that used to give me grief about my weight. You just never know... no one gets any guarantees, that's for damned sure.

Glad you got some warm fuzzies from your students -- that's the aspect of my job I miss the most, the appreciation I used to get from the public and my staff (not that it was like that every day, needless to say.)
