This was NOT an unlucky day. It was merely baffling. There was next to NO snow on the ground. I mean I could see the freaking grass still and yet almost every school canceled. WTF? See, this is why I really need to look into getting a microphone to using lesson capture software. How are students with kids expected to attend class when they have to miss half of Jan/Feb for utter nonsense.

I'm taking a break from tenure tonight but I'm nearly done. I didn't write anything I planned to write though. I AM editing a couple chapters of Splinters of SIlver and Cold Iron (cala_jane did I send you ch 2? I'm currently annoyed. I can not find the notes I took while talking to someone from Ireland to add a little flavor to Killian's vocab in Splinters. I saw them on the hard drive recently but I'll be damned if I can find it now.

I AM getting a little worried about my cognitive abilities. I wrote the word transcript on my hand because I'm forgetting stuff and I didn't want to double check that I had enough transcripts for the portfolio. I took a shower many hours later then wondered what the blue smudge was. OH. right. Geez. That is getting scary.

I have the same problem with words - nouns, I lose them all the time. Words I know like my own name, commonplace things, and the word will go right out of my head. Happens to me several times a day. For some reason it only seems to happen when I talk, never when I write. It's frustrating, though, and often embarrasing.

"Oh, damn, it's a...Fruit, you know, round, orange-colored, kind of sweet.....!?!?!?"

"You mean an orange?"

"YES!!!!"

I had a few phases where I was worried about my cognitive abilities... looking for words, forgetting little things all the time. I recently realized that has gotten better in recent months, and I hear that it can be stress-related which would make sense.

stress related. Diabetes related. Right now my sugar is high thanks to an ovarian cyst. Or I'm just becoming the stereotypical absent-minded professor

Yeah, I bet a lot of it is stress related. Maybe things will improve once the tenure business is done.

The school cancellations were probably because of the cold. And the way I've seen some latchkey kids leave the house in the morning, they probably would die of hypothermia waiting for the bus because they don't have enough sense to put on a damned coat and gloves.
