A fine blanket of snow had settled over Magnolia overnight, leaving several guild members grumbling. Naturally, Gray didn't mind the snow in the least. He admired its beauty, the way it clung to the pines and drifted over the ground. When he woke to discover that winter had arrived, Gray had taken off his clothes and gone for a walk in the woods.
It made him remember Ur. Winter usually did. Even now, tucked into the Guild Hall with one of Natsu's fires burning too hot in the fireplace, all Gray could do was remember her. He missed her more than he wanted to admit. She was the closest thing to a mother he ever had, and he felt her loss keenly. He couldn't help feel it was somehow his fault she was gone.
Peering around and not seeing Erza in sight, Gray stripped down, sweating from the fire. He didn't want to be thinking about Ur so much, but he couldn't stop. Gray remembered her collecting the first snow of the season and mixing it with sticky maple syrup as a treat for him and Lyon. He swore he could taste that on his lips even now.
"Gray, where are your clothes?"
At Lucy's sharp tone, he jerked out of his melancholic memories. "It's hot."
"Put on your pants." Lucy cocked her head. "Are you all right?"
Gray mustered up a smile. "I'm fine. Want to beat up Natsu in a snowball fight?"
"Will you put on pants?"
"Who needs them?" Now his grin was real.
Lucy rolled her eyes. "Put them on and you have a deal."
Gray pulled them on, at least for now. He might still miss Ur, but he had a new family now.
