She's done a lot of work with diabetics and she's seen nothing like my complete overreaction to 10 minutes of pedaling my feet around. I will obviously be pointing this out to the endocrinologist but it's not making me happy.

As suspected my pickings were very slim for African American authors in genres I actually read. I've read enough Easy Rawlins to know I don't really like the character (but the library has it). Regardless of ethnicity, I'm not much of a P.I. fan. The libray only had Blair Underwood's series about a sleuth named Tennyson who is a barely successful actor/ ex-gigalo whose dad is a cop (which sounded like so much wish fullfilment that I passed) but it's also of a trope I'm thoroughly tired of 'I'm blamed for murder, must prove myself innocent.' The college library has one by a lady and it's paranormal YA. I think I'll go get that. I did pick up Oliver Twist but I'm not sure I'm feeling it. I may just get one from teh college library one I don't know. My problem is the classics are old and they usually smell like mildew and I can't read those. The new YA fantasy my library wanted me to read was back and it smells like smoke. GAH.

Since I told sp23 I would here are my thoughts on last week's Touched premiere

It did have potential with an autistic child with math savant abilities. Kiefer is usually good but I am literally sick to death of fragmentary story telling. It gets SO old so fast. after a while I started fast forwarding some scenes, like the Muslim one since who didn't know he'd go suicide bomber to get his family money (and my recording cut off so I don't even know if he died or not). I have enough attention issues. Flipping thru a half dozen story lines does me no favors.

That said my real issue was with the social worker. Boy that really was done with very little research. 1) look at that loft. Does it LOOK like he's hurting to take care of his son. He's working. He has his son in a special school, there are rich grand parents exactly what part of that makes him an unfit parent who's child has to be taken away.

2) Did anyone research at all children with disabilities? I have had patients far more disabled than the boy on the show and they are bussed to mainstream schools. I'm talking kids with feeding tubes, catheters and wheelchair bound. Even if we put the kid in this super special home (who promptly loses him) he would still be going to school.

3) for that matter why the hell are we blaming the dad? He has put this kid in a special school. He's at work. Why are we NOT blaming this school for negligence instead of him.

I have a friend with a child with severe developmental issues. Both parents work. He's in a special school. Though I did think the line about the doctors saying the boy would be bigger than his dad and what do we do then was a good one. My friend has that reality right now.

I haven't slept in 2 days. WTF? It's all anxiety dreams too. I have no idea why. THis morning I had a dream where someone was screaming her friend was attacked and her jaw was broke. One was an older woman and the other looked developmentally challenged. I stoop down to check her and she was bleeding then the old woman goes to confront the attacker who was wearing superhero garb and she beats the hell out of him and then the ambulance comes for him and I'm trying to get them to come help the hurt woman. That's when I realize we're in a hotel and I'm dressed in some sort of cosplay. The police come in and spray freeze all of us. The alarm goes off but I'm too deep into REM sleep and I have sleep paralysis and the alarm is just getting louder and louder. I would have thought the anxiety and insomnia would have been over the weekend.

Haven't touched my big bang in 2 weeks. Having to remove all my subplots has made it difficult to space the mystery

Your comments about the social worker are totally spot on and exactly what I was feeling. I couldn't understand wtf she was going on about. She comes in there for five minutes and yanks an obviously healthy, loved, and well cared kid out? Bullshit, especially since we're all aware of how crappy the social welfare system can be about pulling kids out of homes where they're being physically and mentally abused, and nothing is done to help those kids.

I grew up neighbors with a boy with severe mental retardation caused by oxygen deprivation when the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck when he was born. His parents kept him and cared for him until he grew too big for them to handle. The second time he put his mother in the hospital, they had to put him into a group home where he actually did very well. But he was a man by then, not a boy.

The muslim kid ending up talking on the phone that was being passed around to the singer who worked in a call center and she talked him down and got the family an oven through her manager. Or something. I didn't really get it because I was kind of zoning out by then.

Believe me, if it wasn't for Keifer I wouldn't watch a second episode of this show, and he wasn't enough to keep me watching 24 when the stupid got too strong, so I'm not sure how long I'll last watching it.

No, the show doesn't actually even start until March. I'm not sure why they showed the pilot episode so long before the actual show was scheduled. Perhaps they were hoping to build excitement and anticipation, but that didn't really work for me since the pilot wasn't that great, imo. I'll give the show a few more episodes because I often find pilots lacking, but it's got to prove itself to me for me to keep on watching.

yeah that's what I figured they must have done which wasn't their best bet. it'll depend on its time slot because I have an old fashioned vcr still which only tapes the channel on the the screen so I can't watch one thing record another

i couldn't even exercise today at all. (I think I figured it out for today, I rarely eat processed food but I was swamped this week and grabbed tomato soup by campbell's. apparently it's LOADED with corn syrup)
