when you try to do too much you get nothing done. But I DID get my part of the virtual launch party for Two Tickets to Paradise done. click here to see one of the things I did up for it. It was well received and I got some interest. More on this whole promotional buzz generation tomorrow.

I did get laundry done too and went to look at two houses I saw online. One isn't too horrible for something covered in green siding (Okay, the green siding makes it fun, like a mint green abomination) but it's still too close to neighbors. The white house had the land I wanted but is definitely on the wrong side of the tracks (literally) and you have to go past several defunct plants to get to it (one of which is lovely brick and is a freaking pity that it's just rotting). Couple that with the price and what looks to be a double wide trailer in the back ground.

Speaking of which there is one of those for sale that's about 5 grand more than my car...then I can live out the song...

I'll look at the locales for a few more houses tomorrow. There is one that I like, Victorian, but it's awfully cheap and I want to know why. One that I've been looking at for years is back for sale but the price went back up (what? If it didn't sell at the lower price...) I want to know what's wrong with that one...There is also one built in 99 so it's newish but cheap as hell and I'm like what? Drug house? over a hellmouth? what?

I did get a lecture done but nothing cleaned. Nothing at all. I HAVE to clean. It's getting crazy.

Also I think the mice might be back since both cats are camped out by the vent in the bathroom which is often where i hear them.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sp23 for the dragon. It IS cute.

I say find out if the brick plant is for sale, buy it, and renovate it into the ultimate industrial-chic loft residence. The old factory sounds like more fun than the houses, anyway.

I had that thought myself. I'm betting like so many places here it's not salvagable due to asbesto and other concerns

True, but being a Superfund site probably knocks the purchase price down considerably ;).

hahaha you'd think that. Who knows, we do have a millionaire DoD contractor moving into Gallipolis, maybe he could use a Jackson branch (since I prefer Jackson to Gallipolis as a place to live)

Mint Green Abomination. :D I love it.

The house is over a hellmouth. Why do you bother even asking?

I'll have to show it to you. There was one you needed to see today but you were at work. I swear to god it's wallpapered with christmas wrapping paper and another with tin foil. Mom and I were laughing so hard. I'm surprised she doesn't come here for spring break so we can laugh together.

oh i'm sure it is. or haunted by something that makes Amityville look tame

I can't wait to see it. :D And Mom's laughing at the idea of Christmas decorated wallpaper.

Amityville...yes...

I'm also leary of housing prices that are too good to be true.Because usually, they are!

Thank you for my dragon. He is quite fierce in a cute way.

well here, no one has work and haven't seen I lived here. most of these houses started out over 100K and are now less than half that. But the town also sucks so...

you're welcome. he is, isn't he?

Ah yes, depressed housing markets.

Zachary is looking for off campus housing. He saw one place - 4 bedrooms, brand new construction with washer/dryer. 2200/month including utilities. If it checks out, he and his friends are going to take it.

very. Granted I went to look today, 2 were in areas I wouldn't want to be in. It's sad, the area around the one victorian that I did like has a yard and everything BUT it's on a very old shabby street. Another was too far out of town where you can hear the dueling banjos.

good luck to Zachary

Victorians are pretty, but they don't all have central heating or air conditioning, if that's a factor. The walls of the one I lived in (a flat shared with roommmates) was so thin I could hear conversations inside the house next door (no insulation). Lovely, lovely buildings, but check everything thoroughly before you buy.

it is and these did. the insulation, however, is what really worries me.

Right now the ones I'm looking at are in such bad parts of town it's a moot point (you have to figure there was a reason they're cheap as shit)

You’re looking to buy rather than rent this time? What are the house prices in general doing in the US? They’re falling pretty sharpish here in the UK – the recession is forcing many folk to stay put, and those that want to move can’t get the finance for it, as nobody is lending.

Houses that sound too good for the price are something to be wary of. It’s not impossible to get a great deal – sometimes people just need to have a quick sale, but you should certainly proceed with caution to avoid a costly mistake.

What kind of property are you looking for?

looking to buy and same here, the houses are practically worthless and many like one of my cousins is stuck in an upside down mortage where the house was 500K a few years ago and now is worth less than half that.

I want a little land but it's hard to find here if I also want to have DSL/cable and NOT have propane gas heat. I'm not a townie. I don't think I'm going to find what I want at a price I can afford alone
