Even with my parents fighting. Maybe someone here will be jailed or whatever it is that's going to happen by the time I get back. Sigh. Actually called a realtor and he turns out to be my friend's grandad. I knew he worked for the realtor but his name was on none of the things on the website. I was trying to get an idea about the website as is this ALL they had? What makes me cry is of the three websites for the main 3 realtors is there are the 60K and below shit boxes then it jumps up to about 115-120K and there are houses there I could live in but unless I get better financing and some help with the downpayment, the mortage is @ 200$ too much. That kills. Like this one: Victorian near my library It's a bit too in town but gorgeous enough to ignore that but you and I both know what will happen? I'll kill myself on that spiral staircase. Bedroom #3 would be mine (but how does anything get UP those stairs??)

But right now this is calling my name. Yeah it's small but I get 6 acres. I'll put up a shed for my shit. log cabin No damn neighbors. I might love you tiny cabin.

I cleaned some but mostly laid around beind depressed. I gave up revamping one of my older stories. I just don't have time now. Thanks for the valiant effort though [livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog

Dinner was a bust. It was a really simple meal chile-lime shrimp over a bed of raw jicama. The shrimp was horrible. Fishy and old. even the cats wouldn't eat it. And I burnt my soup (don't laugh, got distracted by packing and cooked all the water out)

I did find some stuff while cleaning, including health records i thought were lost. about several volumes of the cauldron I'll need to copy and send to ELD if she wants them.

I got my strawberries planted (with neighbors STARING at me but this crew has always done that. they make me uncomfortable) in a pot. I figure if they lasted a week in the container they were in, they can last 4 days while I'm gone inside the house.

I won some ebook on writing emotional characters or some such. I don't remember the contest but I've entered many with this blog hop stuff. That's fun

I love both properties... as for that spiral staircase? It gives me vertigo just thinking about it. It probably only hits me thigh high! Yoinks!

Your neighbors sound awful. Hopefully they do their blow up while you are away... if they do blow up.

there are some really nice ones just outside of town (not featured here) but unless i get a raise or can reduce that one student loan they are for not.

The spiral staircase makes me nervous

they are. sigh.

Six acres is nothing to sneeze at...

no it's not. it's about what i had back home (well we had 40 but cut about that much of it). It's electric heat but since it's small, about the size of this appt, that wouldn't be so bad.

One of the "must haves" when we were looking at houses was a first floor master bedroom - I just know I am in for knee surgery and other treats like that in the future, and don't want to end up sleeping on a couch downstairs, or confined to a room upstairs. So it ruled out some properties that I might have otherwise liked, but it was just a dealbreaker. I love that little log cabin. One of the things we didn't get with this house that I wanted was more privacy. Eventually we hope to compensate for it with a privacy fence and landscaping, and fortunately our neighbors are nicer than yours (mostly, that is - we do have one creepy guy next door that is pretty scary.)

Everyone seems to be in a draggy, down mood right now. A friend who is into astrology said something about the position of everything now is very intense and oppressive - normally I don't put much stock in that stuff, but something sure seems stuck in everyone's craw, to be rubbing everyone the wrong way.

And if it makes you feel better about your dinner:fail, I had a lean cuisine thing that was tiny and terrible. I didn't even share it with the cat, there wouldn't have been anything left for me. And now I'm starving. Yogurt before bed tonight, for sure....

yeah honestly a ranch WOULD be better for me in the long run for the same reason. I was told by the realtor that if I want out of town even by a half mile it's liquid propane only. that's depressing. My parents are so depressed by what they've seen on the websites, they looked for other jobs for me...

something sure is getting everyone down.

ugh yeah I just had a bad snack since I was hungry too

You might want to look into the propane. Maybe it's different there than here, but we had propane installed here so we could have a gas stove and dryer, and it's really pretty reasonable. It beats the hell out of oil heat, that's for sure. I think it's pretty comparable to natural gas when it comes to heating cost, around here, which is about the same as an all electric heatpump, in my experience. Worth checking into, anyway. The other thing is there are a lot of incentives for energy-saving things: if you found a really good deal on a house that had propane, you could deal with it for a while, and as soon as possible you could install an energy-efficient heating system (this house has geothermal) you get all kinds of tax writeoffs and discounts.

fuel oil is insane and some are that. WHen I was in WI, propane was costing 500$/month. I couldn't afford that. Geothermal, hmmm now THAT is definitely something to look into. I did get the name of the local propane guys from the realtor too, so i could checkit out

I wouldn't touch a house with oil heat with a ten-foot pole - not unless they wanted to drop the price enough to cover the install of a new heat pump. We had oil heat in the house I lived in when I was pregnant, and nearly froze to death that winter, because we couldn't afford to keep it filled! Never, never, never again.

Geothermal is fabulous. It costs more to install, but it pays for itself pretty quickly, and there are those writeoffs. It was one of the main reasons we chose this house despite the lack of privacy. Sometime in the next ten years or so, I want to install solar on the roof to augment it, and we may get almost off the grid energy wise, or at least a lot closer.

my great aunt who died around this time last year had fuel oil. We never knew that. Her daughters are struggling to sell the house and told mom what that oil cost. we about fainted.

that is very cool. I will definitely look into it.

*grabby hands at the Victorian and the Cauldron stuff*

Think like Abby. Surely you can destroy these people and make it look natural/like an accident.

i'll slowly copy it

oh i could but i think it might be easier to move into the cabin

That's cool. Not like I'm going anywhere.

Probably. And possibly cheaper in the long run.

Darn, I get a 404 error for the log cabin.

I can't afford a house, which is why I joke about retreating to my dream house in my mind. :-)

Sorry to hear about the parental drama.

try again. someone else did too but I just tried it and it's fine. Maybe something was up with the website

yeah I hear you. I might be stuck in the shaky shack

I think I missed something re: your parents, but I hope things settle soon.

The log cabin doesn't want to load, but damn that Victorian is gorgeous!! I'm with you though, I'd wind up killing myself by tripping down those stairs....

eh, my parents are always fighting. After being married for nearly 50 years, they have long since been sick of each other and my dad is demanding.

Aw to the cabin but it IS a gorgeous Victorian and that's not even close to the nicest one in town. Jackson had money from salt mining a century ago. but yes I would die on those stairs. I know it. I look at them and feel my death

Ah, yes, I understand fully re: the parental units. My folks have been married 54 years this year and are the same way, plus my dad is demanding as well, so yeah, it makes sense. :)

I did finally get the cabin to load. I like it! If it wasn't for the fact that Ohio is well, in Ohio, I'd be sure as hell tempted to move at those housing prices!

That Victorian is totally gorgeous, but yeah, while lovely the stairs look like an accident waiting to happen. I don't know the cost of propane heat but, yeah, fuel oil would be a definite no for me too.

Date: 2012-03-14 03:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
yes they do. If i don't fall down them I'll fall over them, probably while strugglng to get furniture up them

when I was in WI it was costing me 500/month for propane but a) it was 30 below, b) no insulation that I could tell c) i think the tank leaked so I'm not sure it's accurate.

fuel oil is insane. I know someone with it and they're using those 'amish' electric fire places to heat the whole house instead

Can I just offer: From my experience, you do NOT want to be on a septic system. They are a pain - and expensive to maintain (esp repairs/replacements). Try to get on city sewer if at all possible.

not really possible unless i'm totally in town and i know, trust me I know. we had one here for 30 years
