Too sick to do much else. Okay does anyone know if filters can be made permanent or do I need to click it on EVERY time before going to my friend's page? (that's a true annoyance)
the rest is just meme's I lifted from Natgel

There is a way to make a custom friend's filter your default, so it always pops up when you click the standard "friends" link. This is from the FAQ, hope it helps*.
FILTERING YOUR FRIENDS PAGE
You can use custom friends groups to view your Friends page with only entries from members of a specific group or groups. From http://www.livejournal.com/friends/filter.bml you can select one or more groups to view entries from. You can also go directly to a filtered version of your Friends page by appending the group's name to the end of your Friends page URL. For example, if your username was "exampleusername" and you had a friends group called "group1", you could visit http://www.livejournal.com/users/exampleusername/friends/group1 to see only entries from members of "group1".
If you create a custom friends group named "Default View", visiting your standard Friends page will display only entries from members of the "Default View" group. To see entries from all of your friends, you would need to visit http://www.livejournal.com/users/exampleusername/friends/?filter=0.
If you have marked a friends group as public, anyone may view your filtered Friends page by viewing the URL with the group name appended. If the group is private, other users will receive an error message when visiting the filtered URL. Similarly, if your "Default View" group is public, then all visitors to your Friends page will see only entries from members of that group. If the "Default View" group is private, other users will see a regular Friends page with entries from all of your friends.
God, let me see if I can figure this out. DOnt' worry the ONLY thing I'm filtering out is the damn book thing. I want to do the 50book but it's generating DOZENS of entries per day that take me too long to scroll past.
I hear that. Some LJ groups I've actually made myself a member of, but I don't "watch" them, so they won't show up on my friend's page (it's like having someone friend you but you don't friend them back). When I want to see what's up with the group, I can find their link on my info page under groups I am a member of.
When you joined the LJ group, it did two things - made you a member of the group (they "friend" you), and made you a "watcher" of that group (you "friend" them). If you go to your info page, you'll see that their group name shows up twice, under "friends" and "member of".
(1) select "Manage-->Friends" from main LJ menu at top of your info page (2) click on "Edit friends" link (3) Find the name "50bookchallenge" on that page (it appears twice, you want the one with a box next to it that has delete? above it). (4) Click on the delete? box, then go to the bottom and press "save changes" button. (5) Go to your info page and confirm that "50bookchallenge" appears on it only once now, next to the Member Of: label.
This will give you posting access when you want to start threads there, but you don't have to read the constant drivel of the community on your friends page. ; )
thanks. That's what I wanted. It's an interesting site (and if you want book suggestions its great) but I have no desire to hunt and peck for my real friends in a sea of this community's spam.
let's make it as simple as possible for me. I'll screw it up otherwise. Me and electronic things don't get along. I'm content with having to go to the community directly if I'm curious about what's going on
