Hello my name is D.
May. 13th, 2012 02:21 pmAnd I have a problem. I'm a book hoarder. Today I went and bought an 18 gallon plastic storage container and used it to hold all the books that were in plastic bags behind the couch in my living room (because if they're behind the couch they don't exist) and the trunk of my car. I still have a box of books in my living room. I have two boxes in the bedroom and one in the computer room. I have four book cases. I have the top of a hope chest stacked 2 feet high with manga. I have boxes of books at my mother's. I have more boxes than that at my grandmother's. I have ebooks on my computer.
I think I need help. And oh, my hoarding tendencies extends to CD's and mp3's (and tapes and records).
And you all wondered why I said a 900 sq ft house wasn't big enough for me. Frankly I should just live at my library. I could you know. Just put a cot in a back room. My library has a fully functioning kitchen for the staff. It has better internet than I do. The cats could wander the stacks. I would live just fine.
And while I'm here in therapy, I'm bringing my cat. Kanda, step up sweetie and explain why you're a special snowflake.
Kanda:
1. I like to hide in the tub.
2. I pull my kibble out of the food bowl and put it on the floor before consuming
3. I cry every time you open the CD player and continue to cry the whole time it takes you to exchange the CDs. I'm not sure if I don't like the music or if it's just the CD changer doodad that offends me. I will slap it if I think you're not looking. I don't like the DVD player's doodad either or the VCR tapes (yes she still has them. she throws out nothing).
4. I will force you to hold me even if I know you don't want to. You WILL accept my scary love.
It's raining here again. Still. I had to swim to the car. Gah. It needs to stop.
Also I am very glad I sent mom's tea directly to her because the Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Who themed teas (Adagio blends) sound too good to resist.

Date: 2012-05-14 06:56 pm (UTC)I definitely hear you. When we both retired, we built a room just to hold books from both our offices (floor to ceiling shelves all around, check). Now, 10 years later, we have book stalagmites in every room except the dining room. I don't see any escape. Kindle just meant that I had another place to hoard.
At least you have the prospect of moving, which will lead to a short spate of culling (but if you're like me, will just be the eye of the hurricane).
My kitty also shares the kibble tossing problem (but has a water compulsion which means that if water is nearby, the kibble goes in that). Also cries while her water fountain is being changed, and believes that human feet or dish cabinets offer magic protection against thunder. And has a whole series of moves for waking people who dare sleep past first light: knock all the objects on the nightstand onto the floor, pat any exposed skin with paws that have claws just slightely extended, and finally heave a hairball right where the foot will land as it comes out of the bed. But she is beautiful.

these cats are good at staying out of the bedroom but I had one who I lost that battle with.
