at least ways without a pool. Even the kids weren't playing. They were collapsed on the porches. I did the hamburger and hot dog thing but i made my own "hamburgers" out of quinoa and feta cheese. I'll share the recipe maybe tomorrow. It was good but they fell apart.

I spent most of the day with realtor. OMG that old man could TALK. He's the granddad to one of my friends from my nano writers group (though he wants to know why I'm not living in Athens where the cool people are. Life sucks my friend and I'm too poor). He was pretty honest about a lot of the houses being in rough shape. He must have printed out a dozen of houses to look at. I talked them over with mom and aunt (who'll both be living with me if dad and his brother don't shape the hell up).

Sadly the red door house has a realtor in Columbus. In fact my realtor's group had it (he said it's pretty rough inside) couldn't sell it so they did the sensible thing and give it to a realtor 100 miles away. Um. whatever. I am going to be sure to see the neighboring one. He also told me it was very difficult to get financing for double wides including the nicer ones. Okay then, good to know.

honestly this is tempting yeah it's a shack but it's a shack with a path to the lake and that makes up for a lot.

I wish there were more homes outside of town. Well, like I said, I'm probably not going to buy anything. I think my best bet is to hit the job ads and get the fuck out of OH. It's suffering from a nearly 15% drop off in graduating students, not because of less kids being born but because the high school drop out rate is starting to mirror WV at 25%. (just saw a Taco Bell commerical about their stay in school initiative about a girl living homeless in an alley with her text books wrapped in plastic graduating with a 3.9 gpa and here we can't get them to stay in school so badly that OH is considering dropping graduation age to 16).

The funny thing is i mentioned house hunting sucks on twitter and i'm now being followed by like 6 real estate vultures. Time to get porny.

sorry, just in a bad mood. I woke up every 2 hours last night so now i'm depressed and tired

Well, it does have that legal marriage thing going for it.

I would totally live in that lake shack. I kind of like the rustic, woody look, but the fuggly mural would have to go. And I'd probably go to jail for standing on that little dock with a shotgun, picking off the jet-skiers. You, on the other hand, would probably fall down the stairs and die. Lake Shack isn't healthy for either of us.

No, you don't want to move to Savannah. Beryl is busy washing it away right now. That's one thing Ohio has going for it, at least--not much threat of hurricanes. Not that that makes up for the abysmal graduation rate, but it's something.

The lake shack is cool. The duck hunting mural would have to go and you're so right. I would totally fall down those stairs and die.

Don't worry we have both earth quakes (getting worse, thank you fraking) and tornados here. whee

C'mon, the mural makes the place!

They want to start fracking in Illinois now. ON THE FRIGGIN' FAULT LINE.

...because, you know, there might conceivably be something down there they can use.

Seems like a huge waste of time getting your tenure if you're just going to say fuck it and leave Ohio.

Date: 2012-05-29 04:47 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
Not at all. Getting tenure means you can negoitate from a place of power. I've been trying to get out of OH since I got here but now with the tenure I should be able to do it

So if you were to find another job elsewhere they would take into account you got tenure...and up their bid for you to work for them? Wouldn't you have to start all over again in getting tenure in THAT new place of employment? Starting at the bottom of the totem pole, so to speak, kinda feels, at least to me, a huge output of energy all over again.

yes but it means you are very serious about being at the new school and it makes it much easier that way

I only have tenure here because of the recession. No one was moving or hiring or I'd have been out this place years ago.

Hey, that's not a "shack"! That place is adorable and looks like your average lake house. It also looks like it has been kept up. The only things I don't like it the septic system and what I imagine is a long drivign distance for you, not just for work but for amenties as well. But, good lord, right on the lake! You and the cats would love it, and that is a phenominal price.

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
actually it's not a far drive at all, no further than any other point in jackson or wellston. there are no amentities here. and it is pretty shacky (it's not in good shape as per realtor)

and lake here means pond with big dreams but it is cute

I keep praying that the kids who use the pool near me would collapse. Well, at least the really loud ones.

snort. I had one apt like that, the kids made the pool unusuable
