I won something at the Sunnydale Memorial Awards. Round four is open. These are a little different. You can't nominate yourself, only fic that you have fallen in love with by others. It's also vote driven not judged if that makes a difference to you.

The Living Years won runner up for best song fic. This is the begining of the Brambles and Burrs of Life series, where Connor ruminates on his relationship with Angel as he and Lorne truck a severely wounded Angel and Spike cross country post NFA (hopefully this will prove not all song fic is bad by definition)

I also won two awards at the Reborn Desires awards (b/a centric) though I'm still waiting on one and have been for quite some time at this point.

Memory of a Lost Paradise  (no I'm not going to reexplain this one) won first place for Angst and Waterfall, a 500 word B/A story written for the Blood Roses valetine rosebud challenge, won for best fluff

Again, lovely work by the awards makers (I especially love the Angel/Connor pic)

Wow, congrats on all the heaps of awards! I agree, the Angel/Connor pic is really nice. :)

*sob* I'm feeling left out with everyone winning stuff left right and centre - my fault for not nominating, but you can't really nominate when you haven't been writing anything i guess, dunno what's happened to me lately! O.o

And lol, I REALLY hope not all song fics are bad by definition, most of my work so far, or at least that that has won stuff, have been song fics. Don't you like them that much, or is it that you think people don't like them? Cause I've always wondered at people's response to them you see.

Thanks. Yes, you DO have to nominate to win. I haven't been writing much lately. That glut of holiday fic burned me out.

There really is a negative feeling toward song fic that I've noticed in fandom but IMO this stems from some REALLY awful fic that is little more than the characters listening to the song with no other story around it. Now I use lyrics a lot. And even in my song fic like the Living Years, the lyrics are secondary to the plot. A lot of places won't even let you nominate song fic. Personally I think if the lyrics aren't the main thrust and you have a good story woven around them then you have something worth while.

Lol, there was a time I nominated in so many sites I couldn't keep track of all of them.

And as for song fics, what I usually do is use the lyrics as a first person POV, cause sometimes I hear a song and just think: wow, those lyrics are SO what that character would have been thinking at that time, or something to that effect.

In fact, my first fanfic was Dru's pov of when she was turned with the lyrics woven into what she was thinking. And, surprisingly enough(cause it was the first fic I'd ever written and didn't really think it was all that good) it's the fic I have that's won most awards, and for best Dark fic/Angst too, not just as a songfic.

Have I read the Dru one? Sounds interesting. Most of my songfic win other things than song fic too mostly for the reason I said, good story woven around the lyrics.

I mean, i could probably write a song fic for Connor for each and everyone of Simple Plans songs so I know what you mean.

Lol, I don't think you have, I don't remember if I had sent it out on the lists. The link is www.geocities.com/lairofthealchemist/fics/lostwhispers1 . Or at least I think it is, haven't updated my site in ages :S

And I am DYING to actually see Connor. Do you believe I never have?(apart from icons that is)> What I've read about him online is really interesting :D

I'll have to go check it out.

Most people either hate or love him. There's little in between. I'm shocked you get the show at all where you're at.

Hope you like it :)

And lol, they started airing the show in response to all the threats I was sending them XD

Ah, so that's how it's done :-) But truly I am surprised how far American tv travels.

Lol, Malta is an island close to Italy, which isn't all THAT far away. We get loads of American TV, Roswell, Charmed, CSI, you name it. Though if it's on an italian station it'll be dubbed :S

I'm still amazed, seriously that Italy cares one wit about american tv (we assuredly don't about Italian tv). I'd like to hear ANgel speaking Italian though

Heh, it's Spike you should here speaking Italian, not Angel! Seriously though, their dubbing is pretty good.

And lol, it's a case of catering to people's tastes, and seeing as they want shows like Buffy, which Italy doesn't have, they have to import them. In fact, it's the Italian channels which show the most recent films first, not the English speaking ones!

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
That's interesting. I would never have guessed that it's the Italian speaking channels that are faster. That's good to know for my story Built on Lies which is set in Rome.

Well, they're faster than the normal channels, not the satellite ones of course(not that we have satellite). Where can I read the story?

And if you want any Italian translations for it just ask, it's practically my second language (English and Maltese are both first).

Thanks. i will credit you for that. You know I always assumed Malta had Italian as a language or a dervivative there of. I do have someone helping me but she's quite slow so I would LOVE it.

In fact if you know the way to translate Interlude" I'd love you.

Here's the story (one warning, it has an STRANGE ship for BUffy)

Nope, we've got our own language. A very weird one nevertheless, as it's got bits of everything in it, mainly arabic, but only someone Maltese would actually understand it.

Do you mean the word "interlude" by itself? Cause that would be "intervallo" I believe.

What ship is it? (i'm gonna read the fic but it's late here so I'd better start on it tomorrow)

I wondered what root it had since you said it wasn't Italian (Arabic and greek were the first to mind).

Yes interlude by it's. Well one title is INterlude of fireworks (I know fireworks): Twisted. I don't know how to say twisted either.

It's actually Buffy/Connor (for this story in the series. It'll change in the next)

Date: 2005-01-19 02:58 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lejlkwiet.livejournal.com
Well, I think Twisted would either be "torto" or "contorto".

Good, I wasn't too sure myself XD

I loved this. The song lyrics fit so well, and your Connor voice is so good. I got a little teary eyed reading it. Congratulations on a well deserved award! Is there more of this story written or in the works?
I came here via [livejournal.com profile] ann1962's flist BTW. I am adding you to my flist, if you don't mind.

Great I'm glad you liked it. No I don't mind if you add me. I'm a little slow to add back. Just a matter of time or my desperate lack there of

Wow, congrats!

Somehow this post has reminded me that I have to ask Dana (Woods) if there's still space for me at her site. Must be the orange tones of Feel the Heat. Orange always reminds me of my site. *pets site*
