This is the sort of anime evil_little_dog and I grew up on (and several others on my flist) which makes a lot of sense if you think about it. We were twisted from the start.

Gatch was more weird pseudoscience, though. But I guess having a really cool war jet that could transmute into a flaming phoenix is a bit over the top.

Still, the progress that we've made does have a sort of realization that Gatch was ahead of its time with some of its SF science.

I think they should have let sleeping robotic dogs lie... I watched 3 more eps of Casshrrn Sins today, and it seems to just get worse and worse as it goes along.

I really DID do a lot of psychedelics back in the day (explains a lot, doesn't it?) and I never liked that kind of anime, ever. In fact, I was so totally turned off by AstroBoy when I was a kid (I really hated it!) it took my daughter years and years to convince me there really was anime worth watching - the first few years she watched it on Cartoon Network and Toonami, I wouldn't go anywhere near it! It took FMA, Saiyuki Reload, and a few others to persuade me it wasn't all AstroBoy and Speed Racer. Good thing I didn't see Casshern, or it might have been a different story! (Although that UltraMan does look amusing, in an "anime meets Mystery Science Theater 3000" kind of way.....)

I didn't like Astroboy but I did like Speed racer and Gatchaman (battle of hte planets).

Re Casshern - Oh...wow. Yeah. Someone was tripping when they made that anime. That is a little better than the Speedracer episodes and maybe a little bit under from when they did Voltron.

Speedracer wasn't much on technique but I really did love it...Voltron too. loved the villain
