Conflicted: About the pen name (yes still) Eliana Evans is nice and alliterative. My real name would be nice to have out there, to be know as ME but I'm afraid of the consquences. I know some of you have used your real names. Pros? COns?

Disappointed: My first class got an A average, my senior class had a B average, the incoming freshman A&P D average. Someone told me our cells have Cholorphyll (spelled it right). CHLOROPHYLL. I don't even blame my teaching for this.

Annoyed: that the neuroma is acting up in my foot and omg PAIN. I stand most of the day so whines (standing is good apparently, they're linking sitting to early death, i want more studies on that one!)

even MORE annoyed that I got summoned to jury duty. Apparently there is no one to teach my classes was not a valid reason. Will talk to my superiors about getting note saying the same. The letter was funny though saying the sheriff was COMMANDED to summon me.

and long distance annoyed with Dad who is being an uber baby about the shingles (and imaginging he has every side affect of the drugs) and the hernia surgery. Dad, didn't you tell ME to suck it up when I had to undergo surgery to reroute my muscles and remove some of my bone and to stop looking for attention (oh wait that last part was my brother). Dad, my friend L had shingles in her EYES. That stopped the pity party for about a minute before he swam out to the deep end of his pity pool. Mom's about to drown him in it.

Is subtly amused that the most viewed link I've shared in a long time was the one where people are messed the fuck up.

I go with alliterative pen name for erotica (I'm Luna Lawrence). Like you don't love it, like you don't like the idea of students googling and finding stuff I've written that doesn't fit the professional image.

Wow, down here teachers get to put our jury duty off until holidays. But now I can get out of it because of my age, yay.

My mom who was tough as nails and never admitted to any pain but childbirth was in tears many times with shingles, but does sound like your dad's looking for a lot more sympathy than he gave. Shingles in eyes sounds truly horrible. Why I got a shot, no matter what it cost.

LMAO I was just thinking about the pen name issue today! I want to try my hand at getting published in the next few years, and I would go with a pen name too. I'm very interested in the replies that you get to this question.

I used my real name on my first novel, figuring, most people who know me know I wrote the book, and the ones who don't know I wrote the book aren't likely to stumble across the book anyway.

And if they did, I don't have the kind of job or commitments where I'd get anything except maybe teased for writing it.

Con: I have heard that if you self-publish a book under your real name and it doesn't sell well (i.e.>15,000 copies), an agent or publisher who accepts a subsequent book from you later may ask you to publish under a pen name so your new book 's sales won't be "tainted" by being associated with your old book.

Which seems kinda dumb to me, but there it is.

Good luck with jury duty. I remember going jury duty this past February. My group was excused though as last minute the case got canceled. At least I got white chocolate caramel coffee while waiting, haha.
