I've only been trying to get there for 3 months now and always have something come up. There's supposed to be a hard freeze monday so I wanted to go NOW. Athens's farmer market does last all year doing salsas, jellies, meat and cheese inside the mostly abandoned strip mall it sits outside of all summer.

I might as well have been running through the thing flinging money for all the restraint I showed. In no particular order I got local dark honey, pawpaw infused cheesecake, japanese eggplants, sweet potato fudge roll, pistachio/apricot bar, goat milk blue cheese, paw paws and a mango/spinach/raddiccio pizza with fig glaze.
Photobucket

I forgot to put the honey in the picture and only after I uploaded it did I notice the unfortunate juxtaposition of eggplant and paw paw, looks like 2 dicks and four balls but not frotting since they're both going the same way (gah, I need to stop writing erotica!)

The dude with the bread/pizza is a favorite of mine. I could buy everything. He also had a chipolte/blueberry/proscuitto loaf and a cherry/walnut loaf but I can't have SO many carbs. I've had pawpaw beer and jelly before but never the fruit. It's only the state fruit of Ohio and was important to the Native Americans, however, I can see why it isn't in the grocery stories much. For one, it's a very inelegant looking thing and spoils fast. It reminded me of an avocado in texture and how you eat it. The skin is no good and it's filled with huge, thick seeds and it's custardy in texture (Andrew Zimmern would hate it). Around the seeds, the fruit is sweet, a bit like a peach/bananna cross, but nearer the skin it does get a bit bitter. It's interesting. I'm keeping the seeds to see if I can grow them.

I went to Krogers to get alcohol and olives (and as it turns out two kinds of hummus and babaganoush). My friends wanted me to come out there for a Mabon celebration tomorrow but its an hours drive and I really wanted the farmers market and the alcohol more. Krogers now has a make your own six pack for 10$ so I picked up all kinds of beer. I'll do a report on all of them. Got some wine for our get togethers then went to find the pumpkin cider by Woodchuck cider. No dice. It did however have a limited release called "fall" their hard apple cider with cinnamon and nutmeg, it was like drinking apple pie. OMG good. WAY too much sugar for me but I'll save it for my protein meal days.

came home, finally worked on a lecture (been two weeks what with making and grading tests) and cleaned stuff so I no longer want to shoot myself for the condition of my kitchen. I have too much food in my fridge, talk about a first world problem...

Random, i have too many plot bunnies in my head.

Also for my Goodreads friends, if you don't like getting all the to be read books and just want to see your friends reviews/ratings I asked and found out HOW to do that. I'm sorry, while I love getting your reviews/ratings, I just don't have the desire to scroll through 40 books a day since I have people who literally put on 2 dozen books a day. And I would like to try to enter more giveaways but feel bad about flooding people's lists. So if you don't want them, try this. if you do, then well enjoy I guess.

You (and your friends) can also edit what it automatically added to your own feed.
If you go to :
http://www.goodreads.com/user/edit
and click on the "feed" tab, you can then select what you want to automatically be added to your feed. If you don't want every book you mark as tbr to show up, just uncheck the option for "add a book to your shelves".
When you write reviews on books, it will give you the option to check a box as to whether or not you want the review to be added to your feed. This way you can select what goes on your feed, and your friends can do the same.

I desperately want to try pawpaw. It only sells in one place locally - and that ain't very local.

I did find you--turns out I'm Nancy Kreml although someone else couldn't find me under that. But anyway.

YAY, farmer's market! We missed out on one today (passed it just as it was wrapping up), but thought about going out to one maybe in the next week or two.

I'm on Good Reads -- just my real name.

they are fun. they are expensive.

ah i'll have to look for you. I have one for both jana (who does lame reviews) and under this name. And that 'fix' doesn't fix anything (thanks for nothing GR) I THINK i fixed it so my goodreads enter to wins won't appear on your feed but you can't just take off the tbrs. You have to remove everything someone does with a book and I don't want to do that

Very expensive, sometimes! But I love the stuff you can get there. Best goat cheese in the world.

I don't post really detailed reviews (unless I'm really inspired), and sometimes forget to post updates, but I like it to keep track of what I'm reading and what I have read. I get standard updates from a number of people I've friended, but it's easy to pick and choose what I want to read.

I'll look for you.

agreed. The stuff you can find is amazing.

I do post detailed reviews (well not as Jana) because that's something I've always enjoyed doing but a good chunk of my flist there only rate.

I found you. I was looking under your full name (there were 2 but neither had a single book, then I saw your hometown and figured can't be 2 of you with that website listed.)

I should have quite a number of books, although like I said, I haven't written a lot of reviews!

i like to whine so reviews get done, not that anyone is probably reading them though occasionally someone stops in usually to tell me i misspelled something or missed the point and how dare I?

Date: 2012-09-24 03:55 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wildrider.livejournal.com
Yeah, I'll write something if I'm particularly impressed or particularly disappointed (I think I wrote one for Ravens and for The Good Thief).

But for a lot that I added because I'd read them a long time ago, I didn't.

it's amazing how long of a review the disappointing ones get.

yeah if i'm adding series that I've read in the past (probably busy reviewing the latest one) I just put up a star rating
