Can someone come here and explain the word NO to me? I just volunteered for something very time intensive. However,it's very important to me. Some of you know I was nearly military. I wanted to be. I have regreted nothing more than not getting to follow that path. I signed up for the veterans' commitee and we had our first meeting. One of the thing they want are veteran only advisors (or at least ones skilled in veteran needs) and those knowledgable about the military, PTSD, TBI and the like. Well my school doesn't have a single veteran professor. All they have is me. A former VA doctor. I volunteered. It might take special training. I'm willing. I think this could be one of the single most important things I do at this school and if I were to leave, this is the experience that makes me more marketable. But it is not without risk being the go to person if a vet has a meltdown. I've been that person before too. I've been beaten down to the ground and had bones in my face broken during my residency. Am I willing to risk this again? To help our veterans, yes I am. Have i mentioned this will increase my work load?

On another note, I'm really sad my computer isn't here yet and this computer won't take my Dragon program because OMFG does my hand hurt. It's involuntarily cramping up. It's numb. It's making life sad.

Loved seeing LeVar Burton and Wil Wheaton on TBBT tonight. GEEK OUT.

My parents called me tonight: Mom - what was the disease baby turtles carry?

Me - salmonella. Remember my turtles?

Mom (ignoring my question) it's salmonella.

Dad - she's faster than the internet. I'm not even going to look things up. I'm just going to call her.

Me - REMEMBER MY TURTLES

Dad - we didn't know any better back then.

not really my point.I miss my turtles.

Ugh another bad sugar night (nowhere near as bad as monday) it fried my brain. only wrote a little but Temple's dad is just about to find out Temple's new partner is a girl.

In this instance, "no" was not the right answer re the veterans' committee thing. That's why you didn't say it. And your parents sound a lot like my parents. Go figure.

I think this will be very good for you! Surely it will!

But your dad saying you're better than the Internet made me snicker. Lots.

Poor turtles. I miss mine, too. The dogs would probably eat them though; I had my pair when I was sans elds.

I sure hope so

yeah it made me laugh too

we know at least one of your dogs would. Pewter was there for the tortoise massacre (but I suspect Callie was the leader)

It will be.

I'm sure.

Yes, Callie did lead the tortoise massacre, though Chief led the mockingbird massacre.

Good luck volunteering for the veterans committee! You told me a bit about being a VA doctor when you helped me some with my Big Bang. I too am sorry this experience will be great!

The mention of turtles reminds me of when my family bought two baby turtles at Los Angeles. We had them for maybe less than six months and then my parents decided to let them go (can't remember why). My mom told me when she was putting them away at a park one kid wanted those turtles and she gave them to him. XD

My Community College has a WHOLE OFFICE of Veterans' Affairs. I'm thinking you do not have that? (Hooray for being in a State school... even if it's a CC.)

It's a ton of work, but if you can, DO IT. You are absolutely the best person for the job. Sadly they will not pay you any more OR reduce your teaching load. GRR.

Let me know if I can be of absolutely any assistance, and that includes poking my sister for links, but not contacts at the agencies you need to know. The Information GateKeepers can be super douchebags.

we do have a vet's center but we're trying to optimize it (we're also nearly 70 miles from the nearest VA) Thanks

and no, it will not reduce my load nor will I get paid.

Thank you. I'll keep that in mind The student vet spearheading this is really up on the contacts

also i do have that link you sent. verizon is being a butthead about running it.i'll need to find time at work

No no no no no... no OFFICE with a secretary? I think it's MOSTLY a lounge with a secretary at school, and my sister says the WW "coordinator" in our area is overpaid, under smart, and under worked. (Don't share that...)

Hooray for the Student Vet... unless he's like the guy who "coordinated" a WW tourney for a friend. Nice turn out. A good effort.

An utter mess in organization. My sister had a shit fit and it wasn't even MY FAULT! Thankfully all turned out for the best, but she NEEDED information to make it "real deal" for proper recruitment. Good guys did get in.

hahahaha are you kidding? We're too poor for that. We'd like to get that and it WILL be a reccomendation but if that happens I'll be shocked then pissed since we can't hire lab assistants for us either.

he seems to be in his niche with this

oh geez

Good luck with the Veterans committee. That's a great thing to be involved in, even if it will be time consuming.
