Depressing Realization

You think you do a good job in keeping in touch. You usually end up with a small handful of friends that you remain in touch with after college (or in this case medical school) but damn it you're in touch. Only...you're not. I wanted to get my letters of recommendations updated so I'm calling my friends. One I'm still waiting on a call back (we're in touch at least via email). But the other two (husband and wife) have an over stuffed email account and has been for a while. So I call, realizing that it's been forever since I've called. (and vice versa) The phone number isn't valid. Well damn, that's depressing.

So today I call their medical offices. Neither of them are valid any more. Oh, dear God, these are whatI've been sending out to prospect employers (not this year which is why I was checking). No wonder I can't get a damn job. It looks real good when two of your three references don't have a working phone number. So I go to Yahoo yellow pages. THank god they're there. I put in a call. Waiting on a call back. And I swear after this, I will do a better job of staying in touch with my friends.

It's hard to keep in touch! I always have the best of intentions, but it's amazing how many people you let slip away!

it is. But it's really stupid of me not to check to see if my references had changed phone numbers. Hell they even MOVED their office. I feel so stupid.

I'm finding it hard too. You swear when you go to university you'll keep in touch, only I didn't move away (I'm living at home!) and I'm still having a hard time with it. You don't even realize how busy you've been til it's too late. Which is..sad. Maybe also growing and changing, different priorities all that stuff comes into play as well.

it sure does. But I really thought I could manage to talk to at least THREE people from my college days. sheesh. At least she called me now and we'll talk after work

I had the same problem with my resume. I have plenty of friends, they're just all in other states and I don't know their real names....
