What is your favorite pairing (any fandom) to write, and why?

It used to be Spike/Dru. I just love their wicked ways and their sick twisted love. However, I've petered off writing them for two reasons. A) Spike overexposure has made it harder for me to want to write him and B) historical fic takes longer to research and write.

Now my favorite pairing to write is Connor/Faith. They're both very dark, broken people who are trying to do better. I think they play well together. Connor likes the strong dominating femme type and that is Faith.

Really to be honest, the one that leaps directly to mind is Connor/Fred (beyond the icky incestuous Darla or Jasmine ones) I have no trouble with Illyria but Fred...yeah. Mostly because it's Fred. I don't like her very much but more importantly, I see it as a bit close to incestuous.

Everyone talks about Cordy being Connor's mom and I guess if Angel at the time could have chosen that would be true. Connor of course has no memories of this. However, later, who guides him for months in the ways of this world, Fred and GUnn. Fred is actually the closest thing Connor has ever had to a mom or a big sister and in spite of the canon ogling of Illyria (which I no longer see her as Fred, Fred's gone except her body), I just can't see Connor with Fred (and Fred for her own part was squicked with the idea of Cordy with Connor and I'm sure she'd have seen Connor in the same familial light since he is the only male on the show she didn't make a pass at)

What inspires you so much about Connor. I have been watching Ats S4 for the first time ever and I am just wondering :) You write him so well and I am not sure that many people could write him that well. So I'm just wondering why you like him so much when he was (at first glance) not such a likable character but eventually can grow on ya. :)

Why do I like Connor so much? I always have liked his archetype. I've been writing a Connor like character (read a young man from a harsh, abusive (physical, emotional or sexual) background with the accompanying mental difficulties) since I've been about 15 years old. He is so commonplace in my writing that people complain if my original fic doesn't have one of them.

I had quit watching the show after "Dad" made me want to dig my eyes out with a dull spoon and a friend called me (she knew my roommate was taping them even if we weren't watching) and said "Dana, it's YOUR character. Connor is now a teenager and he's your character. You'll love him."

Flippy was right. It was love at first site. He's fucked up, he's got PTDS out the yin yang, plus he's pissed off at the world. He IS my character.

On top of that, he has one of the most interesting backgrounds ever given a Joss character. He has this lush traumatic background to draw from. He doesn't get this world at all. No one around him does much to help him and he has more problems than any Joss character has ever had, even prejudice (for demons of course, I see Holtz as being akin to having the Grand Dragon of the KKK as your daddy). Most of Joss's characters are very open minded (except maybe Angel who has a bit of prejudice against the English lurking, and Cordy who got better as she went). He certainly was better than some of the one note characters that didn't have much of a background of personality (Riley, Gunn, as much as I liked them, they're rather flat)
