Down on the Farm
Oct. 11th, 2013 10:37 pmI went to the Bob Evans Farm Festival today but I almost didn't. My body was too busy Shatnering over that flu shot. I woke up at 5 AM for the usual mid-sleep-cycle-pee. Went back to bed. Didn't set the alarm (did I mention that we get off for Bobfest to go dance around the Sausage tree?) since I normally get up within a half hour of my usual alarm time. I woke up at 10 after eleven! What the hell!?! Seriously body, it's JUST a shot. THe injection site is angry red, the size of a 50 cent piece and as ugly and itchy as a spider bite. My body does NOT like this new intradermal version of the vaccine.
So I go the Laundromat as planned and then to the Bobfest. For those not familiar with who/what Bob Evans is click the cut. Also if you want to see where I live. Click the cut since it's in the youtubes (they're very short). I know not everyone has a Bob Evans restaurant. It's 'homestyle' cooking that does little for me.
THis is literally across the street from the entrance to my University. The farm and university lands butt up to each other.
We love this slogan so much it's on OUR University T-shirts....
Of course, I went a little crazy. This is going to be an Awesome Autumn expensive weekend but you know what, I've been depressed for many months without much break (since at least Vegas and even THAT wasn't much fun) so I earned a little shopping therapy. I got salted caramel coffee from Silver Bridge (as in the one that collapsed in Point Pleasant in the 60's thanks to the Mothman according to local myth) for mom (I love this coffee. For those on my gift list, if you want coffee this is organic fair trade and roasted locally). I got some yumtastic pepper jelly from Starfire Farms for dad (Starfire. Hee. Teen Titans Go!) I got a gift for
evil_little_dog (maybe, I'll need to make it into something if I'm not too busy lazy.) and for
rain_oubliette but mostly it was ALL about me and my ridiculous need for more and more jewelry. Oh and I got cider, maple sugar cotton candy and rock candy (if my diabetes wants to act like a jerk, let's give it something to whine on) and ham/bean soup cooked on an open fire in cast iron cauldrons!
Jewelry - well I was going to get a pendant with the NoH8 logo that has been acryliced to the back of a scrabble tile (cute idea) but forgot it. I did get 2 pendant pieces, dichroic glass, one of a fireworks display for me and one of dragonflies for mom (or me if she doesn't like it) then I got one from the silver smith that uses old silverware to make rings and pendants and I bought the HUGEST thing ever hung on a strand of amethyst. I might have to extend it. It fits but that huge-ass pounded out...ladle? queen's spectre? probably needs to hang a bit lower. I also got something from Pepper Pot who does very steampunky things. It doesn't look like it in the photo I took but it's two dragons on a pocket watch face with an arrow hanging from it.
notice nothing much looks in focus (the dichroic glass would NOT be photographed) but the scratch I stuck on my jewelry armoire...
One thing that WAS disappointing to me was that I haven't been in a couple years and it's ALL the same vendors with just a few exceptions and I'm to the point of how much jewelry can I buy and several vendors I just didn't buy from since they're not advancing their art, just doing the same things again and again, the glass maker and metal worker I'm looking at you two.
I did see the music prof there and the two art profs were there working the Welsh Heritage display and they tried to get me to help as a Welsh fellow. I told them why didn't you tell me BEFORE hand. I would have done it. I was not really dressed to receive but men don't seem to get that. I wasn't a mess but I wasn't prepared for hours of talking to people.
NSFW crap that I thought was both bizarre and amusing
Hey remember that young violinist I was talking about. Here's a fantastic new one from her and it's featured on an upcoming NBC show that will either suck or rock. Betting there's no inbetween.
and while we're at it. check out the Piano Guys

Date: 2013-10-12 02:43 am (UTC)I think the Bob Evans fest would be fun once, maybe...but, yeah. We've got the Food Fest, and it's, well, just food.

Date: 2013-10-12 02:57 am (UTC)It would be and if I'm still here in a year and you can get the time off we could go.
You know I would almost rather a food fest. I MISS the Festival of Forks in Middleton WI and whatever Madison called its food fest.

The food fest here is mostly fried stuff. Nothing unusual. Just lots of it.

Both Lindsey and Piano Guys are great. Watched the Dracula trailer and it seems interesting but I'm following too many shows already haha.

Date: 2013-10-12 03:39 am (UTC)I go for the understated sort of jewelry :-)
I thought so too. I'm not sure if Dracula is a show or a Halloween mini-series/one shot
