Writerly Ways
Dec. 29th, 2013 02:17 pmLast one of the year. And I have no fresh ideas. Sigh. I really wish I were more creative when it came down to this. Then again I've been doing this for a few years now so maybe I haven't done as bad as I think. I can talk about this though. I have the galley proofs in my hand. However, I have NO cover as of yet and no coming soon link. I'm getting a little antsy about that. If I don't see that cover (since I DO have to okay it unless they've greatly changed their policy) by the 3rd I'll contact them.
I'm very excited about it all. They got my signed vellums (first 20 people to buy it hard copy gets an autographed copy). If you want a teaser for the novel, check out the story I posted yesterday.
I'm struggling to get those two short stories done and to find a first reader for them. Here's hoping I at least get them done. No one should ever put a deadline around or just after major holidays. Sheesh. Speaking of which I'm thinking I might not meet the
fmabigbang deadline but the pro writing has to come first.
I need to get back into Jana's social media.
Here, have some helpful links, mostly from my friend, ES.
Back story I sort of failed at this the last few times and it created problems for me. I think this will be very helpful.
self editing tips because who doesn't need editing tips
writing book blurbs Because god, I've seen some real clunkers. My publisher usually asks me to write my own
connecting with readers Connecting with reader is all important.
I upped my yearly word count FOUR times and this was the final count -
I finished the following novels: Splinters of Silver and Cold Iron (YA, urban fantasy), Until the Ice Breaks (YA, fantasy), Kept Tears (urban fantasy, erotica) & Soldiers of the Sun (Urban fantasy/historical, erotica) and the steampunk erotica novella If Two of Them Are Dead. The novella and Kept Tears will be for sale in the first half of 2014. Hard to complain. I FINISHED things. go me.

Date: 2013-12-31 03:14 am (UTC)I used to get all over you about back story dumps, remember? Like any good teacher, you always liked to explain everything up front. That article is so right--sprinkle, don't pour! Now I have someone in my present writers' group who _badly_ needs to understand that concept(yes, a retired teacher).

Date: 2013-12-31 03:51 am (UTC)Yes you did. I know I do bad with it. I have to admit that I'm impatientwith books, waiting to find the sprinkles but the info dump ones are usually just bad.
