I can't see it making any difference in the students' grades. Today was a test that was one half reproduction, a quarter respiration and a quarter immunology. I had nearly half the class fail. Actually half the class DID score under 70% and a significant number scored below 50%. I had them getting 12 right out of 55. ON REPRODUCTION. What the hell are they going to do when I cover something difficult?

I can't even express how frustrating this is. About the only thing I've faced more frustrating work-wise were patients who refused to listen to treatment, who lied about their activities and ended up amputated as a result. Both of my major jobs have been educating people and both times no one at all is listening. And to prove this test wasn't that hard, I DID have two 100%s on it.

I do have things to be grateful for. My Athens friends are finding me help for the cat on the porch. I'm SO grateful for that. And I'm grateful for the extension on fmabigbang I needed it. I got nothing done today on my novella because my god, I graded for 3 hours and only got half the exams done for one class (I have nearly 70 students).

Re: your students. I weep for the future, I really do. When my daughter tells me that she's done better than anyone in her class, I am tempted to say that's not saying much...

You are to be commended for your efforts - the only time I teach kids is during programs and PLT presentations (I just got recertified) but that little taste makes me in awe of those who do it full time (how on earth do you do it?!)

they are SO unwilling to do anything. One of my older students (who got 100% on the exam) said I bet I can tell you one of the people who failed. They didn't have the notes today and spent the whole 2 hours of lab texting. yeah that'll do it

there are studies proving how bad you'll do and your neighbors will with cell phones BUT now they're part of every colleges disaster plans so we can't turn them off
