So I was whining about my test scores today and a coworker turned to me and said that in his class where he's trying student-centered learning (I.e. the student has to look up stuff on the topic) one of his students said 'she didn't want to do this stuff. She didn't want to THINK in class.' She's going into science education. WHAT?!? Just What the holy fuck? Thinking about joining the peace corps. Bet I can find young people without two sticks to rub together who WANT to learn. It would be better than these entitled idiots.

Throws up hands and moves on.

I'm going to have to ask for an extension. I can not get my novella done in the time alloted. I'm very embarrassed and very uncomfortable with having to do so.

Wednesday Reading Meme

What I just finished Reading The Ladies of Mandrigyn by Barbara Hambly. it's been on my shelf since 1985. Read it for the bingo prompt 'bottom of your TBR pile.' I have always loved Hambly but this one wasn't her best.

The Ghost and Mrs. McClure by Alice Kimberly. Read for the bingo prompt 'a book your friend loves' It mixes a bookstore cozy with the ghost of a hard boiled detective. Nice popcorn reading.

What I'm reading now Heart's Home by H.B. Pattskyn. A werewolf historical mystery. Been trying to finish this forever

What's Next Blind Justice by Anne Perry. Mom accidentally gave me a box of HER books when I left and wants them back in a couple weeks. I haven't read a William Monk book in probably 20 years. I did like him but i just fell out of the habit of reading them (mostly when Anne Perry started including so much melodrama with the bosses in this series and her Pitt one).

And I FINALLY did it. I know I said I decluttered my two suitcases filled with clothes and odds and ends to goodwill and I did...sort of. It's been in my computer room since like September. It's now at Goodwill and someone else will have the joy of it.

parody on why AZ’s governor vetoed the bill At least I think it's a parody. Please let it be a parody. Basically it was more likely vetoed less because of gay rights and more because like George Takei said, this was going to hit them in the wallet.

declutter day 214 item tossed -A set of shower curtain rings why kept -They were pretty why tossed -They were hooks and the curtain always fell off and I replaced them years ago. They’ve been sitting in a drawer for about 5 years

It is a parody, it says it at the bottom of the article. :D

If she doesn't want to think in class, how does she expect to teach? You have to go back for classes every year, don't you?

I missed that. Well I ASSUMED it was. No one is this fucking stupid...maybe.

Yes you should and I think for K-12 it's mandatory

I asked a recruiter about joining the Peace Corps when I was in college, but at the time they were really looking for French speakers and I only knew some Spanish. Probably as well. I don't think I would have been emotionally ready for the Peace Corps.

I think these kids want credit just for showing up... kind of like my husband and the door mat. he thinks just passing over it must clean all the mud, dog poo, leaves and grass clippings off his shoes. and I'm like, no honey, you have to pause and actually wipe, drag, scuffle there for a sec or two. and he's like, aw hell, I'll just take'em off if you're gonna be like that. :/

My husband said the only reason it was vetoed was because they're hoping to host the super bowl and it would look really bad on them if they put up a sign at the biggest sporting event in the country that said NO GAYS ALLOWED.

Your students piss me off. I worked my ass off to get my degree, graduated at the top of my class with honors and there's no work for it now since the housing market crashed. But I bet your students will have jobs and still be lackadaisical at it. c'est la vie.

In George takei's blog post he mentioned how a few years back AZ refused to honor Martin Luther King Jr day and lost a superbowl and 500 million dollars in the process.

Actually we're starting to get surpluses in these fields. They best be cautious...me too

Oh, it was definitely a money and tourism decision rather than a civil rights decision. What amused me is that Republicans who voted for the damn thing were backpedaling like crazy. Sometimes I wish I could take my friends and move to a different state. Sigh.

When the NFL says it's thinking about pulling the Super Bowl from your State, it's time to throw in the towel on a bad bill. And while I *hated* the bill and all its idiocy, I also hated the fact that a gay couple fucking sued a bakery for not wanting to do their wedding cake. Someone doesn't want to do business with you? Find another one and then use the power of the internet to tell your tale. I hate this litigious society every time someone gets their feelings hurt.

My feelings exactly. That was a stupid, stupid move, in my opinion, and made the suing couple look like bigger jerks than the bakery owner.

As George pointed out they didn't take heed and lost 500 million partly because they DID pull out that superbowl.

Oh seriously I used to have patients who'd say I HOPE you cut me so I can sue you and then would kick around trying to make me cut them.

That's why the Republicans are always fighting for tort reform in Congress, but, of course, that's never going to happen because of the lawyers lobbyists.

As to the student, I fear for when I become aged. I can only hope that failing a few of them will get their attention. If not, I think it might be time to become a Hare Krishna and beg for change at an airport.

As to AZ, not only do gays have money but so do people who have gay friends and family. I wouldn't go to a store that was exclusionary. I would also tell them why. I think we should have gay bridal registries. I think most of my friends would have a normal wedding/reception. Except for one. She and her wife might go a bit overboard. I know it would be themed. LOL Any excuse to wear a costume for those two.

Yeah I thought the VFW was more national and had to but yes I won't stay with any group I find practicing exclusions

I definitely would do almost anything to wear a costume myself

I know of a few clubs like that. It's disturbing the VFW wouldn't permit non-whites from joining. If a person can fight and die for our country, why are they banned from such establishments. People confuse me.

My friend would have a pirate or Renaissance Faire themed wedding. I love the atheist wedding you mentioned.

Nice to meet you.

Doesn't want to think. I'm sorry, but your students really do come from the shallow end of the gene pool. They don't belong in a college with an attitude like that. If they don't want to think, there are many job openings in retail that don't require an education. Or they could work for Fox News.

sadly it's not just my students either. This generation holds their brains in their hands. I can google it so why learn it?
