The bug lady was here to do the spring spraying today (roachs, another lovely part of living in Florida). She leans in the living room window to inform us we have a snake in the hibiscus. 'Is it Black?' SJ asks. 'Yep.' 'That's cool. He keeps out rats and other snakes' (our backyard abuts a county park so we have acres of woodlands and marshes behind us).

So, I go out and pick up all the branches that the wind has blown down so SJ can cut the grass only to find out our coachwhip is NOT keeping down the snakes. I look over and tryiing to get into the front door is another snake. I look closer to see if it's a king snake or the deadly coral (SJ lost a dog in Jan to a coral). Oh yeah, it's a coral.

Now I've gotten good at catching reptiles thanks to this eco-driven masters I'm doing. I've no trouble getting coaches or even gators. I know my nerve damaged hand is in no way fast enough to capture a coral and even if I did where would i put it? There are way too many young kids around and that park behind the house has too many hikers and kids in it.

I move him away from the door (long branches involved here). I go inside, 'SJ do we have a hoe? There's a coral snake as long as my arm outside.' (and it was. Corals don't get big. The one that killed the dog was this big too. They must love that park to be doing this well). Needless to say neither of us wanted to kill the snake but there was no other way. It's far too deadly to let live (and now all the Aussie's are laughing at me. Haha, corals can't even compare to the king browns and taipans). Long story short, the snake is unfortunately disposed of. What an exciting morning. It's not even 11:00 am yet.

I can't beleive I forgot spunky bum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I used to use that one all the time....LOL
Let's see now....
mate, g'day
well, they are self explanatory those i guess. Mate is used all the time for everyone, whether they are friend or not. Mate is used for strangers. It's used in friendly terms and not so friendly terms. Everyone is mate.

onya as in 'good onya, mate!!!' ie well done. Or as in 'good onya mate' ie you total prat, what did you do that for?
sanger sandwich
snag, sausage
daks pants as in trakkydaks (tracksuit pants) or undies, also used in action as in "He got dakked at school" ie dakked being where your shorts are pulled down and you are standing there in your underwear (yes we are a charming lot)
dag, frumpy, not fashionable, but also used as compliment ie "You are such a dag!"
full as a goog, goog as in googie egg (egg) as in full up with food or alcohol ie "I'm full as a goog after all that food"
dead horse, tomato sauce
pull ya head in be quiet, mind your own business, you're talking rot etc
fair suck of the sauce bottle um, something like 'it's not fair'
squiz, take a look
on the turps on the piss, drinking
shaggin' wagon. a panel van or other van with curtains in windows usually used for getting a leg over (sex) like this: The Sandman (http://www.holdensandman.com/history.htm)

And aussie slang and English slang are quite similiar.

You forgot 'this arvo' or 'sarvo'! (Not sure entirely how you'd spell it)

'This sarvo' means 'this afternoon'. V. important in the Australian vocabulary. *g*

That's a help. I think I had that one already. I have one Buffy story with two Aussie characters so I had a big list of slang already.

It's old. It's a WIP that I desparately need to finish. It's called Forgiven Not Forgotten and it's up at our site at http://www.geekgirlz-r.us/dana/forgiven/FORGIVEN1.html

I know I know. It was an injoke to irritate yet another of my Aussie penpals. I forgot to go pull it back out.

You know rhyming slang?
'Dead Horse' = tomato sauce (ie ketchup)

calling a friend 'china' or 'me ol' china' = china plate/mate

hit the frog and toad = hit the road (leave)

English and aussie slang is very alike..cos our country was like, you know, created by english criminals...

I knew the Irish had rhyming slang like the English but didn't really realize the Aussies had it too. Wonder how America escaped.
