Have I mentioned I'm not a shopper? We had to swing past the beauty supply shop. I picked up My private jet by OPI. it's pretty. What I really wanted was a) a futon b) a hat that I can press into service for my steampunk outfit that I hope to wear in Sept.

All the futons in various places sucked. TJ Maxx had a blue straw hat that will work. I got it, some sunglasses and a gift for a friend.

And that took all day so I didn't get my exercises in, my lectures done or any editing. I'm SO regretting my earlier laziness.

I did get my two think geek t-shirts. I ordered them a size larger. One is a tent and the other is so obviously a size smaller (for all it's marked the same size). They both fit but man what a difference in manufacturing. I really like them both.

Speaking of my steampunk outfit, I already own a version of this shirt with tiny coins on it. I'll be using that since I'm not up to sewing right now.

tried driving. I'm fine so long as I don't have to turn the wheel much so yeah not quite yet,

I've been trying to build a Steampunk outfit in hopes I have it all put together for Halloween. It's going slowly, but if I can find the right trousers (or a skirt, maybe), I'll be able to do something...

Good luck to you. I bought a skirt from holy clothing that cost me less than me buying the material. It's not perfect but it will be passable. I would like to try to make one but right now there's no wayI can sit at a sewing machine. Im working on my persona now (and dusting off my gladstone bag for it. Might as well get use out of it. It cost me a mint when I had to buy it for med school)

Good luck with yours. Do you have a club and/or activities out there to wear it to?

Sadly, no, just a costume. Maybe someday, once I have it. :)

I can't sew on a machine to save my life. Sewing machines HATE me. (I'm okay with a needle and thread, but I can't make clothes that way.)

Aw that's too bad. Even little Athens has an 'airship.' Oh geez. I'm not big shakes with a machine but I'm probably worse by hand

There might be a group (or two!) around here somewhere, but I haven't sought them out yet. I love Steampunk, but I haven't gotten quite that fannish yet! :)

same here. And from of the steampunk sites before they went dead on LJ, I saw that they had some of the issues I saw in the SCA, people who take it TOO seriously which makes even less sense in steampunk since it's all make believe

Bleah. Fandom is its own worst enemy, sometimes...

it is. Pennsic back in the late 80s and 90s was filled with arrogant jerks just waiting to point out to you how your outfit isn't period. Apparently some of them are in steampunk now.
