The only thing I did today was work on lectures and do my pt and clean a little but the real cleaning I need to do is out of the realm of possibility because I can't move the things I need to move.


I did enjoy this episode but mostly I enjoyed Vastra and Jenny which is probably not what was intended. I knew going in this doctor would be more distant, harsh and less human. I'm not sure I like it. At all.

Granted this is only the third regeneration I've seen but I did like how much it took out of him and how confused he was.

Things I liked: Vastra and Jenny. Vastra pulling apart Clara (though Clara's rebuttal didn't really ring true for me). The creepy restaurant and the villain. A lot of the Dr.'s one-liners (attack eyebrows!). 11's phone call (though I was annoyed by part of it), the doctor being able to speak dinosaur.

Things I didn't like: The constant reminders that the Doctor is NOT Clara's boyfriend. Okay, I am thrilled to be losing the romance but how big of a sledgehammer was needed here? Ditto the constant comments about him being Scottish (yes we got it the first three times) or his age. It started smacking of ageism by the end. And I hate to say it, he's only in his 50s and that's not exactly ancient (granted poor Capaldi looks 15 years older than he is)

I am curious about this woman. She doesn't smack of a regenerated River

Vastra and Jenny tend to steal any episode they're in. It was nice to see them being carried through to a new doctor because they could have been left behind as characters only 11 visited.

The hammer was swung fairly freely with this episode, I agree. I don't know if they were trying to make fun of all of the things that they thought people would object to about the new Doctor by constantly commenting on them, but it's possible. It's like they were saying, "Yes, we know this is not what you're used to. We're not used to it either but we've all got to deal with it."

I agree with you about the new Who. I'm not completely sold on him, though I did see an occasional sniff of the Doctor's character as we've come to know it. I'll give it time, and I am curious about this new woman character. But yes, having Vastra, Jenny and Strax show up improves any episode of Who. :-)

Agree with you about the Ep, although I like Capaldi. Too be far, I was never really a fan of the 11th doctor (and I prefer RTD to Moffat), and I loathed Alex Kingston, so I have to say I'm a little more interested than I have been in a while.
I was glad to see the romance go, and in no uncertain terms, it would have been a bit creepy.
Of course it's down to me not following 11 all that much, but I was mystified about who that woman was. Was she supposed to be River

Oh definitely the romance would have looked creepy if it stayed. I'm glad it's gone. I just didn't need to hear it every 5 minutes
