Mothman Festival
Sep. 20th, 2014 09:42 pmI had a very nice day at the Mothman fest (Unlike last year which rained too much to bother). It figures that it was cool all week but it was in the 80s there. Sigh. I was supposed to meet up with Rain but she got there way earlier than me. My sugar was too out of control to get behind the wheel. Ah well.
Mostly I just run through these festivals throwing money in the air like confetti. I DID restrain myself this year. I only bought three books (seeing as I'm getting a storage unit as a library annex) and I did buy a fan made Dr. Who Silence will Fall plate. I had to have it. Did I need it? No. Do I have a place for it to clutter up? No. But I had to have it.
I got the big book of WV ghosts from Rosemary Ellen Guilley and one on the Ohio reformatory ghosts from a lady ghost hunter who gave me her card. More interesting to me was the paranormal investigator from Chillicothe because he is a science teacher at a local high school. His books were self published but I'm interested in reading it. He had the most beautiful calligraphy.
I went to the State Theater to hear Rosemary speak but there was a time mix up and I also got to hear Faye DeWitt talk. I had met Linda Scarberry a few years ago (she was the original witness to the Moth Man, but she passed now). Faye DeWitt talked about her encounter (good lord, the Appalachian accent). Her brother (16) drove her (14) and their siblings up to the TNT because he wanted to prove Scarberry and crowd had made it up. She described the mothman being outside her car window then chasing the car (Scarberry and the three she was with had claimed the same). It then sat on the hood looking in when they stopped. She claimed it jumped to the roof of a 4 story building. Her brother got out to prove it was wires but was a little too afraid to leave the safety of the car door so he winged rocks at it and it came back down. They tried to go back the next night but by then the military had arrived.
Rosemary spoke about her book and the ghosts of murder victims. Fascinating talk. The first one might work for that story I was thinking about. Dead woman, killed on a lonely mountain road, turned out she had been sleeping with at least 16 of the most affluent business men while her cop husband was out working. Plenty of suspects there.
Down on the shores of the Ohio (one of my former students runs the paegent).
Mothman and some of the MIBs
The historic, haunted Lowe (I've stayed here)
A mothman selfie that didn't suck
And happy birthday to
pickamix. Hope it's a good one!

And before I go, a little food porn, very easy to make. Coat asparagus with olive oil salt and pepper and roast at 375 for about 15 min. In a pan fry a little prosciutto until it's crisp.

Looks like a lot of fun at this year's Mothman festival. Too bad it's the same weekend as my sisters' birthday. Yay for the new books!
Did I say, yum, asparagus?

it was a fun day
