Back to the tech questions
May. 1st, 2005 01:21 pmOkay guys, Here's the problem. It's the mouse...somehow. It was acting 'sticky' wouldn't let me click on things or would click and do things I didn't ask for like cut the selected text or copy it etc. So, the mouse was old, nearly 4 years and one of the old roller ball ones so I replaced it. The new mouse is STILL doing it so now what? It's obviously not the device but rather the way it talks to things. Yesterday I went to burn a back up of my documents and in highlight the ones to back up, it started randomly copying them. Even as I was trying to delete the copies it would make more, to the tune of 500 new files. And to test the theory it was the mouse, I went to the keyboard only to do the highlighting etc and it was fine, no more copying. The instant I tried to use the mouse, copy-mad.
So, any suggestions? Call a priest?
and on a TOTALLY unrelated note, I think I woke up in the highlands today. One it was grey and spitting styrofoam like ice balls but as I drove to the store for the sunday paper, I see the empty pasture isn't empty. From a distance I think deer and start braking. Then I realize they're way too heavy for deer. They were Coos! I supposed this is a good place for a Scottish cow but dang, what a surprise. They're kinda cute.

Date: 2005-05-02 12:57 pm (UTC)If that doesn't pan out, then look in the "add/remove programs" option, and see if there's any software by the company that made the old mouse (probably logitech) and remove it.
Then if that doesn't work out, check the connector. If you have the option, you can go with a mouse that uses a different type of connector - you're probably using a ps2 mouse (round connector, like a keyboard). Maybe try a USB mouse (tiny rectangular connector) or a serial mouse (small, but not tiny rectangular connector).
But, if the connector is bad, it may be time to save up some money and get a cheap replacement machine - once something goes bad like that, the rest tends to follow.
