More unexpected
Jan. 27th, 2016 11:02 pmSo today I was digging in the old microbiology fridge and found something. Naturally I pried it open and found samples of unknown age and origin or even WHY they were bought but smile everyone, they were all pathogens in pristine packaging. Tetanus. Gas Gangrene. Strep Throat. Staph.
Now guess who gets to dispose of it all?
Guess who would rather rehydrate it just to see what happens?
Mom - MUST you play mad scientist?
Me- I think we all know the answer to that. Better go get a tetanus shot.
I'm nobody's favorite teacher today. I laid them out. Well I didn't yell but I lectured. Hard. They didn't learn ANY of the clinically relevant terms for today's lab. I TOLD them they needed this not just for my class but for clinicals (i.e. hospital work). They didn't put in one ounce of effort (except the two 4.0 students who I told to keep the answer to themselves to make a point). In no uncertain terms I told them real doctors in the field will NOT hesitate to call them on their ignorance in the field in front of patients, in front of other nurses and they will not be nice about it. They have no time for people who haven't put in the work and they will make you CRY. Worse we could lose priviledges at the hospital because they don't know their shit. It's already happened. They make themselves AND our school look bad. No one said a word. I thought a few might cry as it was. Truth hurts and I was not in the mood for it.
I was fine all day and got home to learn two more books came in. Oh boy. And suddenly I was anxious and depressed. Like a cloud had settled on me. Mom even said you sound depressed. I don't know why.
And tomorrow I have to be at the clinic at 7 AM for my first PT. Ugh.

YAY! for books! :D
Maybe the anxiety & depression were an after affect from the class not being prepared.
XD

It could have been the students. Could have been my goofy blood sugar.

Date: 2016-01-28 09:42 pm (UTC)Your students needed to hear that lecture. Your class isn't theory they can blow off, like diagramming sentences. It's job training. Nobody dies because you can't diagram a sentence. Somebody _does_ die if you can't diagnose and/or treat them correctly. Hopefully you made an impression on them.

Date: 2016-01-31 02:54 am (UTC)Actually this is mild stuff relatively speaking. I'll just have to jam it in the autoclave and it'll be dead.
