I went to the urgent care after work. The knee isn't cracked (though an osteophyte might be, i.e. spurs from arthritis). The dressing stuck for the first time and ripped it right open, making it bleed all over the damn place. Doc took no chances and gave me petroleum jelly soaked dressings to make sure it doesn't stick again. My clarity came in the form of remembering to say 'hey can we send this to my orthopedic surgeon' mostly because the young doc is like 'there's a lot of arthritis in the knee' and the former ortho I was dealing with kept saying there wasn't (and I knew it couldn't be true. I've done too much damage).

I got the clothes washed while i was up there and got a third book from the library blind date. The third time was not the charm. I ended up with a book I already own but never did read (Gaiman's Stardust). I took back the other one. John Grisham's YA Theodore Boone:Kid Lawyer. Horrible. What 13 year old (and his whole class) gets excited about offering legal advice and going to a trial?

Had Choklat stout by Southern Tier and crab cakes at Arch and Eddie's and found a beer ice cream by Ben & Jerry at Kroger's (also got myself the single for valentine's day blizzard at DQ) and I'm sort of laughing. I started making beer floats back in like 94/95 (thanks to Lister on Red Dwarf) and everyone laughed and now everyone is doing it.

Mom got me chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine's Day. She paid far too much. Actually the dozen wasn't expensive as far as these things go (locally they want 25$ for like 4-6 of them) but shipping was insane as it came in double layered ice packs inside a cooler...I had one. very yummy.

and I forgot to share the King cake i got everyone at work. photo 100_5037_zpsfortkher.jpg Kroger's bakery is sadly not that good.

Thanks to ES for waving this under my nose.
Harry Potter & the cursed Child I didn't even know there was a stage play in the works but you can now buy this (since how many of us are getting to London for this?)

This is cool Viking Sunstone

I edited more of Blood Red and [livejournal.com profile] silvrethorn this is why I never want to expand a short story again. I have things pasted in in the wrong places. I apparently did Eleni sees Luc for the first time THREE times (why none of this was caught in the first beta read I'm not sure). So much work. But at least I'm closer to being on track with the edits.

I have lost my mojo for my Weird West story. I'm really sad. I HAVE to find it. I can't not write this story.

I do feel less depressed today

Good thing you remembered to send your x-rays to your ortho.

How did you miss the internet exploding when they cast a black actress as Hermione in the stage play? JK Rowling was very supportive and said that she never specified that she was white and was very happy with the casting choice.

Stardust is the first one of Neil Gaiman's books I read.

Oh, that's what that was about? I saw that but didn't realize it wasn't just someone spitballing an idea (i.e. I didn't bother looking into it as I saw Rowling's response first)

I've tried to read it but I find I like Gaiman's YA stuff better

Even snot monsters can be cookie goodness on the inside; how did the cake taste?

I shall not ask about the *****berry chocolates, as I feel about them as Anya does about Bunnies (whereas I just hate Bugs Bunny) :-)

sadly bland and dry. Kroger's needs to reevaluate its recipes

aw, strawberries are my favorites. Come to think of it i'm not sure I have a fruit that I feel about as Anya does.

Oh, dear--Kroger's, are you aiming for a featured spot on Cake Wrecks?

Glad to hear the knee's not broken, but hope it will soon be really healed of its pain.

Beer floats? I can eat some weird stuff, but that would really test me.

yes apparently Kroger's is.

thank you

the Dublin Irish festival has had Guinness ice cream for years now.

Well, I like merlot ice cream so probably should try it...

I haven't tried that mostly because I've yet to find it around here

Maybe only exists at the Bobtail in Chicago. Green tea ice cream and ginger ice cream, though, also very good and should be available many places, but maybe not so odd.

I've had both green tea and ginger ice creams. I've seen ads for wine ice creams but nothing that's creeped into Appalachia yet

*huggles* WOW! I'm sorry about your knee! I hope it feel better soon. Glad you remembered to send the x-rays to your other doc. Not sure how he missed all the arthritis. XD

Beer floats... *wonders how I missed that while watching Red Dwarf*

That cake looks interesting... XD Hope it tasted good! :D

Thanks. my knee is sad. Actually it's the ortho I left that missed the arthritis, not the new one

It was a one off line by Lister. Easy to miss given his accent and how damn fast he spoke.

it was sadly not as good as it should have been

You're welcoem. Awe... *huggles* Oh... still, he should have caught it before it got too bad.

Aaah... Yeah. XD Still a good show, eh? :D

What a pity. *sighs*

it was bad before I ever moved here to be honest. I've known about the arthritis for years which is why I had less confidence in the doc I left.

it was a good show. at least the first few seasons

Your poor knee! Hopefully your ortho wakes up with the x-rays being sent.

Those strawberries look divine (not that I can eat them).

Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better.

It hurts. Actually this ortho doesn't know about the knee. I left the one who seemed clueless

I shouldn't eat them but eh, it's once a year.

thanks, me too

I recently tried eating some Chinese New Year's candy. No can do. Unless I want to be in the bathroom 12 times in a single day with a massive gut ache to boot. So, no cheating for me.

Yeah can't blame you there. If the bad affects of cheating as a diabetic were so readily apparently less of us would do it.

See, this expansion problem is exactly why I never use old drafts. I start new for every draft and seldom if ever look back at the old writing. However, I seem to be the only writer in existence who does this, so maybe I shouldn't recommend it.

The king cake looks gross (beads under the melted sugar icing? Really? Did anybody have the courage to dig them out and wear them?) Publix's looked, well, marginally better. Making king cake cupcakes is the best idea I've seen all year. Much more manageable, far less depressing-looking, and they're homemade so you can actually make them taste good. And since they're made in multiples, you can still play plastic-baby roulette with them.

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
Expansion is a damn bear. I'm not able to start new for each draft. This is I know.

The king cake does look gross. I dug the beads out and tossed them aside but i wasn't there during the consumption so who knows. The cupcakes might not be a bad way to go. I've had shit luck ever since I accidentally bit the head off the baby king

Why does you cake have a plastic baby on it? And I'm still trying to figure out what the pattern is on top...

The Viking sunstone things was really interesting! Thank you for sharing it with us.

Can you resist using that in a future story somewhere...?

Date: 2016-02-14 02:52 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
The sun stone is cool and maybe there will be story in it

the cake is a New Orleans King Cake. The pattern is Mardi Gras beads embedded in the icing.

Here this helps https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_cake

The King Cake is frightening. Just...it looks stupidly dangerous.

Ouuuuch to your knee.

I am super jealous about your berries, though. And alas, I didn't mail out any Valentine's cards this year. I should do that.

I did find someplace for us to possibly visit should you come back this way - there's a village from the 1800's that's been bought out by one man and run as a bed and breakfast out in the middle of a forest. It is reachable by vehicle, but also by horseback and canoe. Best times to go to avoid crowds are from December to March. It sounds like a blast. And it's haunted!

The cake is pitiful.

I'm sure your knee hurts. I'm sure your everything hurts.

I do sort of. Qdoba's is having a "Kiss and get a free something" tomorrow and I might talk Mom into going there. :D It's like Chipolte's.

Love Qdoba. It arrived here before Chipolte's. Mom and I eat there semi-regularly.

It really would! Between there and New Harmony, which feels like Cassadaga (and that in and of itself is pretty funny to me), there ARE places you could visit in Indiana.
