Some context
Feb. 27th, 2016 11:01 pmToday gave me a little insight into why the publishing house decided to stop migrating books and only take new books into the non-romance line (in spite of it making sense to do both). I think they're afraid of it looking stale and just rehashing stuff everyone else has seen.
Why do I think this? This weekend it came out that Samhain Publishing is going belly up, just weeks after Amber Allure did. For context, these were two major erotica indie publishers. Samhain might just have been the largest (doing both het and gay). They were the first I had heard of (and failed to ever sell to). There's been a lot of shocked authors and some real sadness.
It makes me wonder about the true health of the one I'm with (last report it was doing well) and I had considered sending to a newish Australian one who pubbed my short story but you have to wonder.
I'm not even entirely sure self-pubbing is the cause. There is a ton of ebook theft. People put them up for free at 1001 pirate sites. Then there's Kindle U. And even if you are self pubbing, I'm not sure how it's getting out there, marketing wise and the fact that the readers seem pissed it's NOT free and whine that 2.99 is too much to pay for a novella.
I think this is another kick in the ass to get back into the non-erotica game. Still need to find a beta for my YA urban fantasy.
I can not believe it's been a year since Leonard Nimoy died. I still miss him.
I pissed away another day. SIgh.
I had a weird dream. I don't remember much (other than I know it was much more complex than I remember) other than I was in my parents' side yard and there were three men hiking in the trail we have cut into the wooded acres we own. I called out to them asking what they were doing. In heavily accented English (German? Dutch?) they said they were appreciating the houses of some town I had never heard of. I said you're in Bulger and suddenly one of the men was right next to me (covering several yards in the blink of an eye). While he wasn't threatening, he made me uneasy. He was dressed like he was going skiing including goggles but no helmet. His hair was long, white blond and lank. I don't remember what he wanted but I knew I wanted away from him. Strange.
Found a weird 'album' on Spotify called Star Wars Headspace filled with weird SW inspired music.
