Well not much of one since I'm exhausted mentally from grading and making more exams.

Not to mention pissed at the world because some asshole put a leg trap to catch the stray cat in MY goddamn garden. If I find out who it is, I will make him rue the day. We have two new neighbors with very little kids. What if THEY had been the ones to find the trap instead of the guy with the dog (the dog wasn't harmed).

But it all leads up to perspective. What most of us think is monstrous some broken asshole thinks is perfectly normal.

And I learned yesterday my own perspective is skewed. I saw Samhain publishing as one of the big names in erotica/indie horror & fantasy & SF. I made one writerly ways about its demise earlier this year.

However yesterday I met someone who published with them and offered my condolences. His perspective was totally different. He didn't see them as a juggernaut. In fact his experiences with them seemed very much like my own as far as indie publishers go. They didn't do nearly as much promotion as one would expect.

Say what you will about the big name publishers, at least they know how to promote. Most indies don't do much more than what a self pubber would and frankly I don't know how any self pubber makes it. Seriously. I've tried almost everything I've read online as to how to promote and it got me nowhere.

Anyhow from his pov they didn't do much promotion and he wasn't that surprised at their collapse. Might there be some bitter grapes there? I have no way of knowing but it was interesting to me none the less. His response was they gave back rights to the story in a year (which is actually pretty quick) and he was prepared to either shop those stories around or self pub them. I bought one.

I'm too wrung out to do a word count thing tonight. I did get Corpse Powder sent in but forgot the stupid synopsis. Oops.

The article about layering your characters was very interesting. Making characters well-rounded and real is tricky, especially for original characters. Some characters are so flat that they could be made out of cardboard. Thanks for sharing!
