What a Day
Sep. 16th, 2004 12:02 amWell after the freak out last night about had someone broken in here, a HUGE storm pops up. Lightning like crazy. I'm one of those insomniacs that hear pins dropping. No way am I sleeping through this especially ontop of the adrenaline rush of a) are my students all going to fail and me get kicked out b) is there a mad man living under the stairs of my basement. c) there's a strange noise in the house that's spooking the crap out of me.
I do lie down and even though I was so hot ten minutes before that I had the ceiling fan on I'm suddenly freezing. I get up and get the blanket from the closet thinking WHY is everything wet. I turn the lights on. Oh, there's my strange sound. The ceiling inside the closet is coming down and Niagra Falls is forming. So all night I have the drip drip drip into the pans under the leak in the roof.
I get no sleep. I drive through the 60 mph winds to school tornado warnings everywhere. I give the test. The lab portion of the test is on power point. It kicks me out every time I try to advice the fucking slide show and i MISS a slide so now of course my students are wrong (still trying to figure out what we're going to do since it's MY fault. I say just give 'em the points) Most of my class doesn't fail. They're solid C's (which frankly displeases me. I would have liked more B's at least). I'm furious with myself for screwing up the exam.
I get back here and Evil Little Dog wants me to call her. I do. As I'm talking to her I go in the kitchen. There's a field mouse on my counter. I chase him all over and he finally escapes into the basement. I go to the garage to get the live trap but there's spiders on it so I decide the mouse is less gross than spiders. Zog can get me the trap spider free tomorrow. Suddenly for no reason the water filtering device kicks on when no water is running. Back in the basement I go. It's like living inside a horror flick at this point.
I want this week to end (and to top it off, the ol' monthly friend is STILL on it's 21/2 week cycle which it really needs to knock off)
