But before I get into that let me say happy Rosh Hashanah to those on my flist that are celebrating New Year's. And Happy Birthday to Maren! Hope it's a great one (sorry I'm not talented enough to do the running banner thing etc...not even sure I can on my free account)

The looking for help: I'm working on a historical (think weeks after Spike was sired) Fanged Foursome. I'm thinking the competing to give Dru gifts wasn't something new in S2 of Buffy so here's the basic plot. Our boys have pissed off Dru. They're sleeping in the coal cellar (Darla's been injured and in no mood to share her bed with anyone). WHAT do we think Spike and Angelus of the late 1800's would be giving Dru (we'll work up to babies and still-warm heart's) THANKS.

And I won two Hero awards.  One is for Dance with the Devil in the Pale Moonlight which as I just said yesterday is the Angelus/Darla vs Holtz thing

and the other for Memory of a Lost Paradise, the Box of Crayons story where after three years Angel is forced to acknowledge his grand daughter and become part of her life just in time for Ethan to kidnap her.

This probably isnt all that helpful, but if you know of a famous artwork that went missing in the 19thC...... that'd be a cool gift.

My idea was to somehow get a keepsake from one of the World's Greatest Disasters (there's a few lists out there on the internet that rank them by date and by how many people died)

For example, according to one list in 1881, in Austria "A lamplighter brushes the scenery on the stage of Vienna's Ring Theater, starting a fire & stampede that kills 850". So Spike somehow gets a hold of a playbill from that night and it's burnt on the edges. Drusilla's all, "It reeks of death. Oh joy!" Or something along those lines, but more in character for her :)

I like the painting thing too though.

That's also a lovely suggestion. Dear God this story could go on for ever. I could use that list in my Lindsey/Faith story too. My OC is preocupied with death and diasters

just to comment on the rolling text... I found out how to do it over at my deadjournal:

<*marquee>Text here<*/marquee>

I've tested it too... accidently as a comment, just remove the stars.

No problem... I had been wondering how to do it too.

You didn't say where they are, but how about these:

We know that Dru loves her dolls, and they did some beautiful china ones at that time.

Boring, but: A pretty fan or parasol. We've seen her with those. Jewelery.

Plants. Angel said she spent hours in his garden in Sunnydale. Maybe an Aspidistra?

Also the Victorians were big on discipline. Maybe the boys would want to placate her with a cane or riding crop to punish them with?

A cycle - a Penny farthing was around late 1800's.

Perhaps they would try and impress her with their talents - A drawing, poem, etc.

Does that help? I can probably think of some more if you want.

HUGE help thanks. Yeah they're in England but I think by the time SPike starts acting like a dillweed rabble rouser and calling himself Spike he had gotten them oustracized to York. I might leave them in London and him as WIlliam...

Whatever city works best for you scenario, I suppose. I have a thing for the Victorian era - I find it an incredibly interesting period. But perhaps that's just me...

exactly so. Now if I could just find a decent Ireland tourism site. The ones I'm finding suck.

I pretty much found it. Went and got a real book. I love how many historic links the sites claim to have and you click on them and there's nothng there or some weird account frm a tourist...

The Internet can be a useful tool, but you also have to wade through a lot of rubbish to find what you want.

very much so. Sadly these are the official sites for say Galway, Dublin etc. There's really no excuse there other than poor design

It makes you wonder if the people who design the sites ever actually *use* them!

yes it does. I used to work for the government collecting links and surfing websites for governmental/educational functions so we could input on stuff like this.
