I don't even know why i remembered but suddenly it struck me it's October third. ANd i hadn't paid that defaulted loan. The ONE thing I can't do is be late with that money. Sigh. I live online. I'd like to know how I forgot. yeah it's paid now but i hate to think of what penalties this will have.

And my internet crapped out half way thru paying bills. I NEED to call Earthlink. Ever since i got their vista software I can't stay connected to the net correctly

Even more new crap came down at school (when the tenured faculty are weeping in their office you know it's bad). We have no money for anything but suddenly we have to stock a brand new biology lab in a branch campus (even though there's no one to teach it since they want classes in the middle of the day and there IS no lab). I had to spend all day today coming up with all the equipment (read I'm the most anal retentive so everything has catalog pages, prices and amounts). I can bet they have NO idea what this will cost. bare bones equipment is more than 10 grand.

I said this about the various meetings at work and I say it now about the vice presidential debate. This is NOT 1958 or even 1988. It's 2008, welcome to the internet age. DO NOT LIE OR DISTORT to make your point. We can call bullshit on you within minutes. I did it at work (well via a tenured faculty member). Basically both sides are lying sacks of crap, neither one worthy of my vote oh the web we weave

bah, enough of the bad crap. Have something fun. A meme

Grab the nearest book.

* Open the book to page 56.

* Find the fifth sentence.

* Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions if you want to.

* Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.

That would be the one i'm reading now Dead Beat by Jim Butcher. "[Some] of them open their eyes and get involved - like Murphy did."

For those who like to see such things, here's what I read and reviewed last month (and gee I'd like to see other members of [livejournal.com profile] bookheaven posting up stuff occasionally) I only did marginally better this month than last

I have figured out one of the things i like so well about the Dresden books - Butcher doesn't rely on the withheld information drama. You know what I mean, someone knows something that any NORMAL person would confide in their friends/family because it's important but to create drama that person keeps it to themselves. (Buffy et al were masters of this). I'm not a big fan of that method of creating drama. Harry usually does confide in his partners (okay not always and there was one book that DID use this drama creator and it was one of my least favorites). Just food for thought for those of us who write.
